Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is a common diagnostic procedure that uses a long, flexible tube fitted with a small camera to view the inside lining of the large intestine. Colonoscopies are typically performed to investigate symptoms a patient may be having or to detect polyps or signs of colon cancer. Your provider may also recommend a colonoscopy if you suspect you have inflammatory bowel disease (IBS) or another intestinal disease.

During your women’s wellness visit, it is likely that your provider will perform a Pap exam, also commonly referred to as a Pap smear. This exam is performed to detect abnormal cervical cells and signs of cervical cancer. Detecting abnormalities early on can help patients to better treat and potentially cure their condition successfully.

Prostate Cancer
A prostate exam is a screening test to detect signs of prostate cancer. Our providers often recommend that men over the age of 45 receive a prostate exam along with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screenings to detect early signs of prostate cancer. PSA is a protein that is produced by cancerous and noncancerous prostate gland cells. A PSA test measures the levels of this antigen in a man’s blood. High levels of this antigen may indicate prostate cancer earlier than a prostate exam. PSA screenings may also detect other conditions, including inflammation of the prostate and benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlargement of the prostate.)
