Augusta Sportswear, located in Augusta, Ga., offers a variety of apparel styles, including t-shirts, sport shirts, youth styles and ladies apparel. Its products include athletic jerseys, shorts, outerwear, corporate casual, aprons, tote bags and accessories. The company s products are distributed via catalog order and through a network of distributors located throughout the United States. The company was established in 1977 when a local entrepreneur purchased the assets of a storefront tailor shop in downtown Augusta. The shop's previous owner had made canvas bags from pieces of discarded material. The operation was renamed Canvas Products of Georgia. The small company, with three employees, made duffel and laundry bags for sale to Army-Navy stores. Canvas Products of Georgia changed its name to Augusta Sportswear in the early 1980s after a visiting advertising agency executive observed that only a few of the company s goods were actually made from canvas any more.
