El Roble Elementary School, located in Gilroy, Calif., is affiliated to the Gilroy Unified School District. The school is a part of the Intermediate Intervention/ Underperforming Schools Program and also offers the Houghton Mifflin reading program. Its primary focus is on reading and language arts and teachers use state standards for each subject and grade level. El Roble Elementary School s math program, Harcourt Brace, is supplemented with materials from the Excel program and provides the basic platform for student achievement in mathematics. The school helps students to volunteer for library jobs, working with other students, supervise classes during rainy days and preparing materials. El Roble is a PeaceBuilder School that is based on five principals, including praise people, give up put-downs, seek wise people, notice hurts and right wrongs.
