Glaucoma is a progressive deterioration of the optic nerve that can be associated with higher eye pressure. It can result in a gradual loss of peripheral vision and ideally needs to be diagnosed and treated at an early stage.

Macular Degeneration
OCT is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves of specific wave lengths to take detailed cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve. This allows your eye doctor to map and measure the layers of the retina and nerve fiber layers with incredible microscopic detail. This is particularly useful in screening and evaluating changes in the macula of the eye for macular degeneration. It also allows incredible precision in monitoring the optic nerve for any progressive damage in cases of glaucoma. The OCT machine will scan your eye in 1-2 minutes without touching it, and micron level resolution in two and three dimensions. OCT provides a straightforward method for assessing retinal cell layers, diabetic macular edema, and photoreceptor integrity.

Cataracts
The natural lens in the eye is perfectly clear, but will naturally become cloudy with age- refered to as a 'cataract'. Eventually, the vision becomes hazy and the lens will need to be removed, as it causes burred vision, and often times is associated with nightime glare.

Cataract surgery is safe and effective way to replace the cloudy lens in your eye with an artificial clear lens implant, in order for you to see clearly.
Eye Exam
Upneeq is a prescription eyedrop that is used to treat blepharoptosis (low lying or droopy upper eyelids) in adults. Droopy eyelids often develop later in life but can affect adults of all ages. Having low lying eyelids can make it more difficult to see the world around you. Upneeq works by making the eyelid muscle shorten and contract which causes the upper eyelid to elevate. Ask Dr. Zdral or Dr. Esser about Upneeq during your next eye exam to see if you would be a candidate.
