Ear Infections
Symptoms of the flu generally start with a sudden onset of fever with chills, headache, muscle pain, and non productive cough. As the flu progresses, we also see sore throat, congestion, runny nose, and cough. Eye redness, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are not generally seen, although they are often referred to as “stomach flu.” In young children, the flu virus can cause ear infections and in infants, can look like a severe blood infection, which can lead to wheezing and viral pneumonia in the very young and the elderly, or those with compromised immune systems. The flu can cause severe illness and lead to severe complications, even in healthy children. It can cause febrile seizures to encephalopathy or encephalitis, which is where it affects the lining of the brain and spinal cord, which can be serious and lead to long-term problems. More rarely, the flu can cause an infection in the lining around the heart, leading to death. Another major problem related to the flu is getting exposed to another illness at the same time and having a secondary infection from bacteria or another virus.

She moved with her family to Phoenix, AZ where she first worked as a PNP making house calls at foster and group homes. She then worked at Mendy’s Place, one of the first Pediatric Urgent Care centers in the country. She eventually moved back to DFW and has been here ever since.

Her internship included studies in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. She completed her medical training in June 1999 after serving as Chief Resident of Pediatrics in her final year.

Here are the ADD/ADHD forms that need to be completed prior to those type of visits. If your child has multiple teachers or coaches, please bring more than one set of outside the home evaluation forms.

Lesions
Chicken pox, also known as Varicella-Zoster Virus and human herpesvirus 3, used to be a very common childhood disease. Humans are the only source of this disease. It is spread by airborne route, from a person who has the disease. This means that it can be spread from the actual lesions or from the respiratory secretions of a sick person; like a cough or a sneeze. It was most commonly seen in school-aged children, but with current vaccine requirements and recommendations, it is increasingly rare. Between 1995 and 2005, in the first 10 years of vaccinating, the incidence of chicken pox decreased by 90% and has decreased further since adding a booster dose. Most people who have the vaccine or the disease have lifelong immunity to the disease. The decrease of incidence after vaccinating is an example of herd immunity (see below).
