General Info
Rich in history, Sunset Supper Club is a local landmark on scenic Lake Winnebago in the village of Taycheedah, two miles northeast of Fond du Lac. Though not always a supper club, it has been a place for friends and strangers alike to gather and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. The one story building was built in 1854 by Valentine and Margaret Mengel. Their home operated as a coach stop, freight depot, trading post and general store in the early pioneer days of the city. In 1906 the Mengel's son Pete transformed it into a friendly general store, tavern and soda fountain. In 1923 the second story was added. During the 1920's, 30's and early 40's it became Pete's Place, where it was enjoyed by the young and old alike as a place to picnic, dance to the jukebox, sample a 5 cent ice cream cone or watch the antics of Pete's pet monkey and goat.In 1942, after Pete's death, new owners transformed the business into a supper club, first known as Club Sunset later as Sunset Shores in 1981 as Sunset Supper Club. In 1983 Scott Huck started his first job as a busboy later working as a bartender. In 1984 his future wife, Kelly started in bussing and waitressing. They both attended college and worked part-time at Sunset until they purchased the establishment in January of 1992. Together they continue a tradition of providing customers with an excellent dining experience, including home cooked quality food, courteous and friendly service, and competitive prices. The veteran staff of 45 provides a family atmosphere that extends itself naturally to their customers as well. They have become affectionately known as the "House of Prime Rib" as this signature entree' remains their most popular item. The restaurant comfortably seats 125 and another 50 in a smaller banquet facility. A permanent dock was installed and has provided boaters on Lake Winnebago with convenient access to the supper club. Scott also devotes his time to the Board of Director's for the Lake to Lake Chapter of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and currently serves as their Secretary/Treasurer. We invite you to come dine and relax where spectacular sunsets are always reminiscent of our name.
