Preventive Care

Dental Care
3. We prefer to perform an examination on your pet while you are present. Please allow an hour for examinations and 30 minutes for a surgery, dental procedure, boarding or grooming admission.
Vaccination
By filling out this change of address form we can keep your records up to date so you will be sure to get timely updates on Vaccination and Pet Health Care reminders from us.
Behavioral Counseling
Behavioral Counseling: We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression.
Nutritional Counseling
Dietary Counseling: We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance. We also have prescription diets used to help with obesity, kidney disease, cancer, liver disease, arthritis, and other medical conditions. If needed we can consult with a board certified veterinary nutritionist to formulate a diet for your animal's special needs.
Comprehensive Examination
Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of a physical examination once yearly for younger animals and adults and twice yearly for our senior patients. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems.

Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. If needed we can order flavored medications for your pet from a compounding company. We also carry a full line of high quality maintenance and prescription diets. Pain Management
Pain Management: We use a multimodal approach to pain, using different types of pain medication before, during and after a procedure, for an injury or arthritis. We make every effort to control pain and make your animal more comfortable. We have also had excellent results with acupuncture for pain management of acute and chronic conditions.

Upper Respiratory Illness Treatment
The isolation room is where we hospitalize possibly infectious patients such as those that have respiratory disease or parvo virus infection. There is a separate entrance so these sick patients will not come in contact with our well patients.

Required vaccines for dogs include Rabies, DHP, Parvo, Leptospirosis and Bordetella (kennel cough). Required vaccines for cats include Rabies and FVRCP (upper respiratory virus).

Anesthesia: We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety and quick recovery, especially for our older or high-risk patients. We recommend pre-anesthetic bloodwork, EKG screen and IV fluids during the procedure as well. Our surgical technicians provide constant monitoring of your pet's vital signs and supportive care during all anesthetic procedures.

Our Adult Dog Wellness & Dental Plan includes all of the services in our Adult Wellness Programs plus a professional dental cleaning. 85% of pets over the age of 2 have periodontal disease. If left untreated, periodontal disease will progress and shorten your pet's life. Yearly dental care and dental home care will reverse or slow progression of dental disease, treat infection and relieve pain.

Laser Surgery
Spaying and Neutering
Spaying or neutering can be done at approximately 6 months of age. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required at the time of surgery. Also a pre-anesthetic blood screen is recommended prior to undergoing anesthesia and surgery.

Laboratory Services
This is a blood test that is run here in the clinic prior to surgery. It tests the organ functions, blood counts and clotting function of your pet. The pre-anesthetic blood screening is done to assure safety during surgery and the ability to heal following surgery
X-Ray
Dental Radiology
We recommend bringing your pet in before their dental procedure to have an exam and blood drawn for their preanesthetic bloodwork. If the pet has severe dental disease or a fractured tooth, antibiotics will be given a few days prior to the procedure. The patient will be admitted in the morning. The staff will call you after the teeth are cleaned and evaluated with dental x-rays to let you know if additional dental work is necessary. Most pets go home the same day of the dental procedure.

Surgical and dental care as necessary during his or her lifetime. In addition, EFVH provides boarding and grooming services. We have a dedicated, well trained staff that believes in client education and helping you take the best care of your pet.
Grooming
Veterinary assistants are responsible for assisting the veterinarians and technicians. Their responsibilities include animal handling, running lab work, bathing and grooming, cleaning, feeding, and laundry.
Senior Pet Care
To help you provide the recommended preventive health care needs of your pet. Keeping up to date on examinations, vaccinations, lab tests and parasite control ensures a long, healthy life for puppies and kittens, adult dogs and cats and senior pets.
