        Crystal Lake Health Foods is a unique, independent natural foods store serving Crystal Lake and the greater McHenry County area since 1971. The founder, Bob Edwards, a mechanical engineer by trade, developed an intense interest in nutrition after his dog developed epilepsy and diabetes. Putting into practice the concepts of health pioneers such as Adelle Davis and Betty Lee Morales, he helped his dog overcome these conditions and go on to live a long and healthy life. His commitment to the study and application of advanced nutrition built the foundation upon which our store now stands. Over the years, we have seen interest in nutrition and good health blossom from a minority of people considered to be living "outside the norm" to the widespread acceptance and permanent status it enjoys today. Through all the growth that has occurred since then, we have always strived to offer our customers with the most accurate, honest information that we can provide. We read as much as possible in order to keep up with the most recent developments in this ever-expanding field, and we are constantly learning from all the people who come in and share their stories and health concerns with us. Our commitment to this mission has earned us the trust and growing appreciation of our customers. We value these relationships above all else. We do not and will not engage in the typical aggressive sales approach that, unfortunately, can be a part of the natural foods industry.         Good in a pinch

        I am reviewing the brewing supplies section of the business. I am an intermediate level extract brewer; I brew about 4-5 batches of beer per year, and also a batch of hard cider 1-2 times per year.. Generally I order most of my supplies from 1 of the 3 dominant online brewing suppliers. However, when I am lacking something and don't plan on placing an online order anytime soon, CLHF has just about anything I would need on short notice, including equipment, cleaners and sanitizers, and ingredients. Their prices are higher than what can be found online, but of course one must factor in the shipping charge when purchasing online--large, heavy and or multiple items, especially if not needed right away, may make more sense purchased online. Just like anything else, price it out to see what's cheaper.



        The service seems very good, and my interactions with staff there, though limited, have been positive. There is at least one gentleman there, I believe he may be the owner, who has a decent knowledge of home brewing for any questions one might have.



        Overall, very my experiences have been very positive, and I will continue to give them business.

        I went into Crystal Lake Health Foods with very little knowledge of home brewing and was able to learn a lot from a knowledgeable member of the staff. They have everything to start home brewing.
