Overall
GOOD AS IT GETS!

If you live in the rural areas you don't have many choices for you electricity company. Southside Electric Cooperative is our one and only resource for electricity in Abilene, VA. When the wind blows strong, plan to have no electricity for atleast a whole day and when there is ice falling... a week. The men that work on your lines are excellent. They are courteous and will help you in any way when something fails. If you go without electricity or winter months are coming plan to get socked with a $200 or more fee to help pay for these men. The price of SSEC is high and it only gets worse for you if you are late with paying your bill. They send the man to your house to cut off your electricity and will not help work with you to get the astronomical amount paid off. We got behind one month because we had spent all of our food money for groceries and lost our power for 4 days due to snow. We then had to take our bill money and buy food all over again. The following month we owed a whopping $800 ( 2 months worth) to SSEC and needed two extra days after they were planning to cut our electricity off and the woman on the phone kept saying I'm sorry I can't help you. Contact your local social services office they may help you. When we had our third child times were tuff and we were behind again and I called the SSEC office to find out if I could make payments. I spoke to the rudest lady on the phone. I contacted Mr. Harris and he said he would take care of it and then contact me back...... I never heard a word and my electricity got cut off on scheduled date.

So the only reason why this company gets a 3 star is for its excellent line men that go out of their way to help us. The customer service people or the president of the customer service.. are not worth moving to the country because SSEC is as good as it gets!
