Teeth Cleaning
Fluoride Treatment
A. Patients should brush their teeth at least four times each day – after each meal and before going to bed. We will also show you how to floss your teeth with braces, and we may provide a prescription for a special fluoride treatment, if necessary.

Dentures
Brush your removable appliance every day as a part of your regular brushing and flossing schedule. Because food particles and plaque can accumulate on your appliance just as they do on your teeth, soak the appliance daily. Dissolve a denture-cleaning tablet in a glass of tap water at room temperature, and soak your appliance once a day.

Dr. Jennifer Lowney is humbled by the opportunity of practicing orthodontics in the community in which she grew up. A Lebanon native, she is a 1984 graduate from the Williams School in New London, Connecticut. From there, she pursued a dual degree in biology and philosophy at Tufts University and graduated from the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine in 1991. She received her orthodontic certificate from the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine in 1993. She has recently rejoining the orthodontic department as a part-time faculty member. She has published several articles in the orthodontic and medical literature but considers her biggest accomplishment being the birth of her triplet daughters in 2002.

She not only finished the Invisalign Masters program, which allows her to treat complex orthodontic problems with clear plastic aligners...But, she also was voted "Top Doc" by Connecticut Magazine!
Braces
Right after you get your braces, and sometimes after you have an adjustment appointment, your teeth and mouth will feel sore. To alleviate the pain, you may take acetaminophen or other non-aspirin pain relievers while you adjust to your new braces. You can also gargle lukewarm saltwater, which is a mixture of one teaspoon of salt dissolved in eight ounces of water. A warm wash cloth or a heating pad may also reduce the soreness in your jaws.
