Fluoride Treatment
Most patients have achieved the desired results at the end of their second appointment. We then advise the patient to perform a one hour maintenance bleaching once a month to retain those results. Negative side effects are rare but occasionally patients will complain of increased sensitivity of their teeth. We advise them to call us for a no-charge fluoride treatment which generally will relieve the symptoms.

Over the last century dentists have placed millions of amalgam fillings in teeth with an incredibly high success rate, however with all therapies there are always downsides.
Veneers
Recent improvements in porcelain technology allows our office to create beautiful, natural looking smiles without the unsightly metal show through normally associated with porcelain crowns. These advances allow us to be minimally invasive and still achieve optimal aesthetics. Although orthodontics is usually the treatment of choice for crowded and/or overlapping teeth, porcelain veneers can be used for an instantaneous extreme makeover.
Crowns
In his 22 years of practicing dentistry, Dr. Dagostino has performed root canal therapy on over 6,000 teeth. Endodontic therapy, or root canal therapy, has been performed by mainstream dentistry for over seventy years. Recent literature shows the success rate of endodontic therapy to be over 95%. Dr. Dagostino’s personal success rate exceeds 98%. The actual procedure is completely painless and relatively quick, taking anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours depending on the tooth. After the patient is numbed, a rubber dam is placed around the crown of the tooth. This allows Dr. Dagostino to maintain a high degree of sterility and use disinfectants to cleanse the canal systems. The canals are then enlarged and sterilized, dried, and prepared for the introduction of the gutta percha cones. These rubber cones serve to provide a hermetic seal within the canal system. The cones are seared off at the orifice and the tooth is restored. We do recommend full coverage crowns on the majority of root canal treated teeth, but as in all procedures we evaluate that on a case by case basis.

The treatment modalities have significantly changed over the last 20 years. Better techniques along with better medications have made periodontal surgery unnecessary in 95% of the cases seen in our office.

Dentures
When? Jaw imbalance affects patients of all ages. Dr. Dagostino treats patients as young as 3 years old. By the age of 6, most (up to 80%) of the jaw growth has occurred. Active FJO treatment between the ages of 2 and 6 years of age can effectively guide proper growth and development of the jaws, the teeth and the airway. Whether you are a child, adolescent, adult or in your senior years wearing dentures, an FJO examination can evaluate your present jaw positioning, its potential risks on your health and provide a treatment plan for the correction jaw health.

Dental Implants
There are tremendous benefits that dental implants can offer patients. Dr. Dagostino has taken over 1,000 hours of continuing education on the surgical placement and restoration of implants. Much of his education comes from clinicians in Birmingham, Alabama, where these pioneers have been successfully placing implants for over 40 years.

As patients increasingly ask for more sophisticated and immediate procedures, our advanced in-office imaging systems provides very accurate information for expanding general dentistry, oral and orthognathic surgery, implantology, TMJ analysis, spinal studies, airway assessment, periodontal, orthodontic, impaction and many other dental procedures.
Tooth Extractions
Why? Practitioners trained and experienced in performing Functional Jaw Orthopedic treatment are not only concerned with the teeth, but also with the jaw joints, the jawbones and the facial muscles used for chewing. The need for tooth extraction or multiple ( serial ) extraction with this method is greatly reduced. The more teeth that a patient can keep produces a more broad smile and a healthy TMJ. A common misconception is that protruding upper front teeth (over bite) need to be pulled backward, whereas the real problem is that the lower jaw needs to be moved forward. In the most severe overbite cases the lower jaw (recessive mandible) is the problem. Our goal with FJO treatment is to establish a stable occlusion (bite) in which the teeth, bones and muscles are all working harmoniously, as well as a beautiful broad smile. As patients become more educated about the ill effects of unnecessary tooth extraction and retruding jaws, FJO is becoming very popular.

How? It is common that a dentist performing functional jaw orthopedic ( FJO ) treatment will treat the patient in two phases. First, an orthopedic appliance is inserted into the mouth to move bone. These functional appliances are removable or fixed devices which alter the growth of the jawbone to correct many problems such as airway obstruction, mouth breathing, over bites (class II), under bites (class III) and other bone formation pathology. In most cases, the purpose of the appliance is to expand the arch to allow the teeth to fit in, rather than the traditional orthodontist approach of extracting healthy teeth. In the second phase of treatment, orthodontics (braces) are used to straighten or align teeth to hold the jaws in place for a beautiful smile and a healthy temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

Teeth Whitening
The technique our office uses for teeth whitening is safe and extremely effective. At the initial visit we take upper and lower impressions of your teeth. The second visit we perform “power bleach” which is done with an extremely concentrated carbamide peroxide, this jumpstarts the process. At the end of the visit we provide the patient with their custom made trays and home bleaching gel. We instruct our patients to use the gel for a minimum of one hour per day for the next 30 days. We schedule the patients for a second power bleach approximately 30 days after the initial appointment.
