Dental Examination

X-rays
Oral Cancer Screening
During your initial visit, we’ll ask you to fill out necessary new patient forms and hand them into our front desk. If you already filled them out at home, we’ll take them and ask you to wait a few moments until one of our team members is ready to see you. Once we call you in, Dr. Neslund will perform a comprehensive exam, capture a full mouth series of x-rays, perform an oral cancer screening, and do a non-invasive periodontal probing to ensure no gum disease is present.

Teeth Cleaning
Our general family dental care services include children's dentistry. We would love to start seeing your child around the age of three. By starting early, we get a good head start on your child's oral health. We can help your child get comfortable with trips to the dental office and help prevent future dental anxiety. Your son or daughter's first children's dentistry visit will consist of an examination of their teeth and gums, possible X-rays, and a very gentle cleaning. We might apply a fluoride treatment to protect your child's teeth from cavities. As your little one ages, we'll spend these visits checking on the development of his or her bite. Once the adult teeth come in, we can apply dental sealants to your child's molars. Dental sealants play a major role in children's dentistry, protecting cavity-prone kids during these very important years. If we can keep your child's smile healthy into adulthood, they stand a better chance of lifelong oral health.
Fluoride Treatment
In the event that your child develops a cavity, it’s entirely possible that a dental filling is too much for them to handle. That’s where silver diamine fluoride can make a huge difference. This unique fluoride treatment is specifically meant to help young patients control their cavities without the use of drills or dental fillings, which would be the traditional method of treatment. With less than a drop applied to your child’s tooth, we can effectively manage the development of the cavity and reduce sensitivity, which is common for damaged tooth enamel.
Dental Sealants
As your child gets used to practicing oral care every day, they may find themselves struggling to keep all of their teeth protected. This is particularly true when it comes to their molars, which have many deep cracks that allow food debris and plaque to settle in. Over time, these teeth can become a breeding ground for plaque development and eventually cavities. Dental sealants use composite resin to seal these teeth, making them easier to maintain as your child hones in on their dental hygiene skills. Application only takes a few minutes to complete and they can expect protection for many years afterward.

Fillings
Our dental office is completely mercury-free. If you have old, silver amalgam fillings that you wish to have replaced, Dr. Neslund will gladly use tooth-colored onlays to provide you with a more natural-looking and healthy smile. He'll remove the old filling, take an impression of your teeth to be sent to the dental lab, and have a porcelain onlay created just for you using an impression of your unique tooth. Once the restoration is ready, you come back to our dental office, where Dr. Neslund will place your onlay. Plus, he can create onlays in one visit using CEREC in-office technology.
Resin Composite
An inlay fits inside all of the cusps, or highest points, along the chewing surface of a tooth, while an onlay covers one or more of the cusps. A dental lab will craft a single piece of porcelain, gold, or composite resin into the right shape to fit your cavity. This inlay or onlay will resemble the chewing surface of your tooth. Once it has been created, we will place it inside of the damaged area to restore function and protect the tooth from further decay.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Pain, swelling, and bleeding is normal following oral surgery. A cold compress should be placed on your face near the surgical site for 10 minutes at a time, with 5 minutes off, the day of your surgery. This will reduce pain, swelling, and bleeding.

Tooth Extractions
Depending on the way in which the tooth erupts, Dr. Neslund will perform either a simple or surgical extraction to remove your wisdom tooth. During a simple extraction, the tooth has fully erupted through the gum tissue, making it completely exposed. However, a surgical extraction means that the tooth is trapped underneath existing gum tissue or a neighboring tooth. In this case, a small incision must be made to access the tooth, where it will likely be broken into smaller pieces for easier removal.
Bone Grafting
Prior to performing your dental implant surgery, Dr. Neslund will conduct a complete assessment and examination. He will use your health history as well as the current health of your gums and remaining teeth to determine the appropriate course of action. While most people are candidates for dental implants, some require bone grafting or other pre-placement procedures to make their oral structures capable of supporting and sustaining them.

Invisalign Orthodontics
