Overall
Terrible service

My fiance and I have lost our snap benefits and been without them for the past three months due to mistakes and errors made by the staff here.

Our first problem came upon us after asking this office to transfer our case from the Chicago area office, as we had just moved here. The original lady who took all of our information and said she would transfer it apparently decided she really didn't feel like it, and never did it. When we didn't get our monthly benefits, i spent two weeks calling at all hours of business, different days of the week, all to no answer. And was told i had two different case workers, on different calls, by the person who answers the general help phone line. After at least a dozen calls, and half as many messages (of which I only got one call back and the message they left said "returning your call", not any answers to my MANY questions) I finally got ahold of the supervisor, who was patronizing, rude, and wouldn't let me explain our situation to her without repeatedly interrupting me to say "are you done?" over and over again. She also told me that because I talked on the phone with someone and had no "proof" that they said they were transferring my case almost a month earlier, there was nothing to be done about it.

Upon applying again early this month and being given the due date for paperwork they needed, I realized that we needed extra time (which you can contact them to get more of) to get it all together; four phone calls that went unanswered and a message asking for extra time and to call me back later, at four different times of day, on four separate days, I figured we had our extra time (seeing as how my case worker never got back in contact). Should have known better. Received a letter in the mail the other day letting us know our application had expired! Wonderful.

Called again to try to work this out (because the first time went so well) and was told that even though it was their office's screw up, "policy says we can't do anything". Thanks! Really helpful!

Common courtesy and being polite go a long way, even if you can't admit or say your office made the mistake.

Stay away from dealing with this office if you can, I'd rather be broke and hungry (and thanks to them, we are both!) than keep dealing with this level of ineptitude.

Overall

The ladies I spoke to lied about EVERY bit of information I needed. On top of that, they were extremely rude!!!!! I will NEVER go back, nor will I keep my mouth shut about their unprofessional behavior and ridiculous lies. I understand not knowing a thing or two, but every bit of what they to,d me was false! I just moved to Illinois and really needed the CORRECT information! Do all you can to avoid this place!!!!
