Colonoscopy
We do bill for a screening colonoscopy if it was scheduled as a screening procedure and not due to symptoms, ie diarrhea, abdominal pain, etc. This is true even if colon polyps are removed during the procedure. If the scope was scheduled for a symptom and/or biopsies were taken, we must bill the procedure with a medical diagnosis and not as a screeing/routine procedure. Prior to your procedure, it is up to you to check with your insurance company to verify that you do have screening coverage. You must inform our billing department that you have screening coverage for your scheduled colonoscopy.

Dr. Xiao graduated from Hubei Medical University in Wuhan, China in 1987 with his doctor of medicine degree. After graduation he practiced Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in Beijing, China. From 1990 to 1993 he finished a Masters degree in Molecular Biology at Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China. He came to the United States in 1996 to do research in gastroenterology motility at Brown University in Rhode Island. While there he published more than 20 of his articles. From 2004 to 2007 he did his Internship and Residency at St. John's Episcopal Hospital South Shore at Far Rockaway, New York. He finished his training with a three year GI fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.
Gastroenterology
Gastroenterology and Hepatology Specialists, Inc. (GHS) was established in 1998 by Dr. Nabil Fahmy upon completion of his three year Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship in Richmond, Virginia. Under Dr. Fahmy's leadership, the practice has grown into the success it is today. In 2004 the practice moved from Mercy Medical Center Professional Building to its new facility in the upper level of 4360 Fulton Dr., N.W., Suite B, in Canton (Jackson Township). Dr. Sameh Kamel joined the practice in 2008 following his GI fellowship in Long Island, New York and Dr. Xiao joined the practice in 2010 following his GI fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.

Endoscopic Ultrasound is a procedure that combines endoscopy and ultrasound in order to obtain images and information about the digestive tract and surrounding tissues and organs.
