Dental Examination
No matter how well you care for your teeth, you may still be suffering from gum disease. Belasco, Ober & Associates may recommend non-surgical gum therapy.

Teeth Cleaning

Fluoride Treatment
The oral hygiene you practice at home—brushing at least two times a day and flossing every day—is great for keeping your smile healthy and beautiful between visits to your dentist, but it doesn’t take the place of the more in-depth cleaning we’re able to perform at Drs. Belasco, Ober & Associates office. Here, not only can we perform more comprehensive cleaning, but we can also perform fluoride treatments, take actions to prevent or reverse gum disease, or even tell you about a variety of dental options to keep your breath feeling and smelling fresh!

Resin Composite
If the thought of unsightly metal fillings leaves you less than thrilled, you’ll be happy to know that dental science has made many advances since metal fillings were invented! Today, if you need a cavity filled, Drs. Belasco, Ober & Associates can use a strong composite resin that looks much more natural and is much less noticeable than a metal filling. And best of all, composite fillings only take a single appointment to apply—which means you save time while improving the health of your teeth and the appearance of your smile!
Veneers
Since he began practicing dentistry, Dr. Ober has kept up to date on many continuing education classes, focusing on cosmetic dental treatment. He has become an expert at placing lumineer veneers, the veneer that offers the ideal smile with minimal tooth removal. Crowns
Porcelain inlays and onlays are a very aesthetic alternatives to composite fillings. They have a high degree of strength, and as such, are excellent for restoring weakened back teeth. Inlays and onlays protect and restore large portions of decayed, heavily restored tooth, or teeth under very heavy load (i.e. back teeth). Unlike crowns, they only cover a portion of the tooth, and are therefore more conservative on the amount of tooth preparation required.

Root Canal Treatment
Each of our teeth contains a long, thin strand of dental pulp—which provides the tooth with nutrients and nerves—that extends down to the tooth’s root. If the pulp becomes infected or injured, the tooth’s nerves die and, often, without endodontic treatment, the tooth dies as well. Root canals are designed to save such damaged teeth.

Periodontal Surgery
Dr. Christopher Munn received his B.A. from Northwestern University and his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Since graduating from Pitt in 2007, he went on to complete a general practice residency at the Veterans Association Pittsburgh Healthcare System. At the VA, Dr. Munn gained advanced clinical experience in fixed and removable prosthetics, simple and surgical extractions, periodontal surgery, rotary endodontics and the restoration of implants. Dr. Munn joined Drs. Belasco, Ober and Associates as a general dentist in 2009 and currently practices in the Belle Vernon office.
Deep Cleaning
The top three non-surgical gum disease treatments are local medication, curettage, and root-planning. All can be done in our office, and you may be given local anesthesia to keep you more comfortable. No matter which treatment or combination of treatments your dentist chooses, keep in mind that the treatment will likely take place over time, as your dentist tries a treatment and then assesses its effectiveness.

Dentures
Since he began practicing dentistry, Dr. Belasco has kept up to date on many continuing education classes, focusing on implant retained dentures (“snap on” dentures) that give denture patients the comfort, security and staying power of their own teeth, crown and bridge restorations, and lumineers cosmetic veneers. Dr. Belasco strives to ensure that his patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced dental care.

Dental Implants
Drs. Belasco, Ober & Associates performs dental implant restoration by attaching artificial teeth to implants anchored in the bone below the gum line. After the anchor has been surgically placed in the jawbone, excess bone and gum grow around the implant, holding it firmly in place.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
It is important to follow instructions after you have oral surgery to ensure proper healing and to avoid complications. As a rule of thumb, you should always wait two hours after surgery before eating to let the anesthesia wear off. Trying to eat before this could result in soft tissue damage because you are not able to feel all of your mouth. The instructions found below are guidelines. After your surgery the doctor or dental assistant will give you full instructions on how to properly recover from surgery.
Tooth Extractions
After all other options have been explored, Drs. Belasco, Ober & Associates would recommend a tooth extraction only in the most extreme of cases where another method of saving the tooth is not available.

Orthodontics
Orthopedics is considered the first step along the path of orthodontics. Mainly focused on children whose teeth, jaw structure, and facial growth are still developing, orthopedics aim to straighten or align the teeth. Typically involving short-term therapies like retainers or other removable devices, orthopedics may actually preclude the need for future orthodontic treatment. Orthopedic treatments have proven to work in both cases of genetic and environmental malocclusion (crowded/crooked teeth) and can help children to avoid potentially damaging behaviors—like mouth breathing—before they become a habit or start to negatively affect other areas of your child’s life.
