The new owners are working diligently toward making this a family campground with many improvements. There is a new heated in-ground pool with a "kiddie" section. They put a new cement floor and lighting in the covered pavilion, and many sites were enlarged for bigger rigs. The camp store is going to be enlarged, but it does carry most amenities including tobacco & alcohol.

Absolutely Horrendous

If you like a creepy security guard hanging out in the darkness next to your camp site, then this is the place for you. When I asked him to just carry a flashlight with him when he patrolled so we knew he wasn't a bear, i was told that "we are all grown ups, and there are no bears". Same security guard frequently scared all of the women of our group because he lurked in the brush outside of the women's bathroom at 2am. We literally ended up leaving flashlights on at the end of our campsites so we would be able to see who was out there. Made whole group paranoid.

Also met a group in one of the group sites that has been going there for more than 10 years, and said they never go would again because it is not the same.

I heard River Run is just across the bridge and was recommended to us all the way down the saco. It's cheaper and has better sites

Hidden Gem

This is some of the best wilderness camping in Maine. The sites are so far apart that you will think you are alone in the campground. Many sites have private river access. Busy on the weekends but quiet weekdays. This is (nearly) true wilderness camping. No running water anywhere but the office, no electricity (of course) and outhouses, very clean.
