Overall

With a monthly membership fee as low as it is, I would like to say you get what you pay for. If that were the case, however, I would recommend Fitness Forum pay it's members. The staff is irrelevant, the "trainers" are uneducated & dangerous and there has been no functioning sinks in the men's locker room for over 6 months. It is a stereotypical "meat head" gym so you generally never have to wait for any cardio equipment and it is a ghost town early in the morning so I would recommend going early. If you are looking for a place to go and not be bothered, it will suffice. If you are looking for a facility with good amenities, competent trainers or a decent selection of classes, this is NOT the place.

Overall
Awful gym with awful policies

This is an awful gym with virtually no amenities. They don't have towels or even have water fountains, and make you buy bottled water. The locker rooms are tiny. They're very stingy with air conditioning. And there is equipment that's been out of order for an inordinate amount of time. I gave up thinking of excuses to stay.

I tried to cancel by phone a few times, and each time was told I would have to come in. I argued that I was now working and going to school part-time and live relatively far away, so that would be really inconvenient. After a lot of calls, hold time, and repeating my plea and personal account info to different people, I was finally told I could send a registered letter to cancel.

At this point for one reason or another I got a new credit card number and cancelled the old one. Unbeknownst to me, I continued getting charged despite cancelling the credit card I used for membership. Months of charges piled up, and when I finally got the general manager on the phone after being given the runaround for a month, he says even if I cancel now, they'll CONTINUE charging me for 60 days after the cancellation.

This place operates like those supplement scams on the radio, with ridiculous cancellation policies that work out because credit card laws are so in favor of vendors right now. They claim to be a friendly neighborhood place, but try asking for a little courtesy leeway and see what happens. Really, avoid this place.

UPDATE: The manager of the gym called me after seeing this review, accused me of lying and of cowering behind anonymity, and so threatened to post my real name here in retaliation. Everything I've stated above is accurate though, and though I do tend to remain anonymous when it comes to posting online, I don't feel that alone should warrant questioning the validity of my post, since most people do prefer not to post personal information on the internet.

Although it's true that I signed a contract and the gym didn't do anything technically in breach, I do feel their cancellation policy is an example of sleazy business practice. Scams such as radio-advertised supplements that rope people into recurring credit card agreements are also technically legal, but few would deny that they're immoral, as they prey on people's lack of understanding of how recurring credit card payments work -- as I feel is the case here.

I stand by everything I've said. I have learned a valuable lesson though, to never sign recurring credit card agreements in the future. I only wish that weren't something people should need to be so paranoid about, and that credit card laws would change so as not to allow businesses to take advantage this way.

Overall
Lousy

A lousy gym. You have to send certified letters to cancel a policy that is expired!

Then you have to follow up with phone calls that they don't return, because bet your @$$

they keep billing you anyway. It gets one star because the gym itself is nice. I don't know

about the Bayonne one but they were slightly more helpful on the phone.
