General Info: Special Education is a program operated by Bismarck Public Schools. It includes various services, such as home-based instruction, parent training and support, developmental testing and the development of individual service plans. It also includes Head Start, a preschool program that provides a range of family and health services, including dental screenings and treatment and nutrition services. Special Education program additionally includes a variety of hearing services, such as speech development training, language, academic and auditory training and comprehensive screenings and evaluations. The program also offers occupational therapy services that include handwriting assistance, daily living activities, positioning, keyboarding, oral feeding and self-regulation. In addition, it provides orientation and mobility training, Braille and keyboarding instruction, and daily living skills and vision efficiency training to students with vision impairments.
