Bend Speech and Language Clinic, BSLC, is serving Bend and all of Central Oregon. BSLC provides speech pathology services, language services, reading intervention, and social thinking therapy. Susan Ruzzo is the speech pathologist and has been practicing in this field for the past 15 years working in different settings and with many different communication difficulties. She uses her vast understanding of language and communication to help you achieve more effective communication. BSLC serves preschool and school age children, adolescents, and adults. Areas of communication disorders treated include:* Articulation services - this treatment focuses on teaching the client to clearly say speech sounds through more focused movement of the tongue, lips, jaw, and breath control. * Language intervention -This treatment focuses on helping the client combine words and sentences in a way that is clearly understood by others for his/her developmental level. This therapy is used for language impairments of all levels and reasons. Increasing a client's language understanding is also included.* Stuttering therapy - Susan treats the entire family for fluency disorders for any age. Fluency impairments effect the entire family as well as the individual. New research suggests that when treated early, stuttering may be reversed.* Social thinking - This treatment, developed by Michelle Winner, serves to help people with difficulties in understanding and using the nuances of language to easily integrate socially in school, work or community settings. Susan has studied with Michelle and can help you develop more effective social interactions . * Stroke and TBI- Following a stroke or a traumatic brain injury, brain damage may result in functional speech and language difficulties, organizational impairments, and slurred or slow speech. Some patients discover that they are no longer able to use their language skills with ease as they once were. Treatment focuses on the individual's personal language difficulties and the effects on family and community life. * Speech-Language evaluations - an evaluation serves to determine whether or not the client presents with a need for speech or language intervention and helps the family and the SLP plan the treatment goals.* Reading problems - Reading difficulties often are a result of a language system that is delayed or disordered. Susan understands how the two systems are linked. Let us help you or your family member improve their reading skills and develop a joy of reading.* Accent modification - All people will carry an accent in a language they learned later in life. Let Susan help you learn what your specific distortions are and how to modify your accent and sound more native.* The Speech/Language Pathologist, Susan Ruzzo, MS CCC-SLP, is a certified member of the American Speech and Hearing Association, ASHA. She carries a state license in Oregon through the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. She has been in practice for 16 years graduating from the University of Oregon in June of 1994 with a Masters in Communication Disorders and Sciences through the College of Education. Susan spent 10 years with the Bend-LaPine Schools serving as the resident speech pathologist at many public schools.20% same day payment discount.
