Sweetser, located in Belfast, Maine, is a nonprofit social service and welfare organization that was established in 1828. It provides health care services for children, adults and families suffering from mental and behavioral disorders. The organization addresses the physical, emotional and social development needs of children and has a staff of more than 1,200 employees and volunteers. It also provides support services to the community by providing shelter and basic resources. Sweetser additionally operates counseling centers, a training institute and educational programs for students suffering from learning disabilities.
