Psoralen with ultraviolet light therapy, of PUVA, can be a successful means of treating hair loss. Psoralen is a medication that increases the skin’s sensitivity to ultraviolet light. When it is combined with medically administered ultraviolet light, the treatment is known as PUVA therapy. PUVA has been shown to be effective in treating hair loss resulting from the immune disorder alopecia areata and from aggravated psoriasis. The Psoralen used in PUVA treatment may be applied topically or administered orally. Complications of this treatment may include nausea from the medication and the possible risk of skin cancer or cataracts from the exposure to ultraviolet light.

Skin Cancer

Using the ABCDE method of mole assessment (AAD.org), monthly self exams are recommended. Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, encompasses a broad range of skin rashes. The causes may stem from heredity, but may also be caused by allergies/sensitivities to certain allergens, environmental factors, or as a result of secondary causes. For adults, 18 years of age and older with atopic (hereditary) eczema, drug Dupilumab or Dupixent called Dupilumab (Dupixent) may be very beneficial. This condition is characterized by small flesh colored red bumps, often with a central whitish core. The lesions may occur anywhere. The lesions often affect children. However, when they are concentrated in the genital area, they may represent a sexually transmitted condition in adults. There are many ways to manage these lesions. However, at times, the lesions may spontaneously resolve.Â

Safe for most patients, and non-invasive, chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin to make skin smoother, reduce scarring and remove blemishes.
