Framing
The client had also commissioned an artist to create a canvas that would remind them of Italy. We suggested framing the art work as part of the millwork design we here introducing into the unit. You can see this in the first two photos. We also added a roll down screen in front of the tub in the second bathroom so it would appear as a Powder Room. We relocated and expanded the closets into a partition between the two bedrooms which included a built-in Murphy Bed for guests. This allowed the guest bedroom to function as an office opening into the master bedroom for every day use.
Fireplaces
In the living room, the existing fireplace wall was an element that was very noticeable when entering the house. This design creates a new level of elegance and character to the first floor living areas as well as a ones first impression when entering the house. We also took a very long and narrow enclosed porch area and created a new mud room, laundry room and home office.

We have been designing new homes, additions and renovations in the Boston area for over 20 years. We have developed wonderful relationships with our clients, many of whom have returned for multiple projects. Our clients’ goal was a new sun room off of the family room and connecting to a new patio that would replace the existing wood deck. They also wished to expand and upgrade the existing family room and convert an existing closet and hallway into a mud room and address some smaller items.

Landscaping
Our thought process is multidimensional. That is we Integrate Interior layouts and exterior design through every stage of the project's development. By doing so, we avoid, for instance, solutions that may offer a great floor plan but do not meet your expectations for a welcoming outside appearance and visa versa. We also enjoy developing a strong relationship between the interior and exterior interface - one that pulls in natural light, maximizes views and Integrates landscaping when applicable.
Driveways
Our clients came to us with idea of creating a new kitchen, breakfast area, bathroom, small home office, family room-music studio and an upstairs laundry room. The existing house is a wonderful Victorian, rich in detail. Our goal was to seamlessly integrate the addition into the existing structure keeping the new proportions in scale with the existing and replicating some of the appropriate Victorian details. We also designed a patio to replace the deck we removed. The idea was to develop a connection between the garage, driveway and back door, while creating a pleasant secluded sitting area. Typically the side of the garage is a nondescript wall one sees when walking to the car. We visually pulled the space together by using the wall of the garage as an asset to define the patio and seating area.

Window Installation/Replacement
It was also important to them to rearrange the existing circulation into a more efficient plan that created a comfortable and more simplified flow. Achieving this, allowed us to widen the existing stairway, thereby making it more graceful and elegant; enlarge some rooms; and bring more light into the house. This program included a new kitchen, breakfast room, an enlarged dining room, new family room, new home office, new master suite with walk in closets, a second floor laundry room, and a new guest bedroom suite. We also developed a conceptual landscape plan that would relate to the architecture and take advantage of window and door openings.
Garage Door Repair/Replacement
Our client wished to transform the existing house in Weston into a more traditional New England center front colonial, reflecting a more human scale and proportions. The first step was to pull the existing front wall forward, while keeping it under the existing roof overhang. We used a different exterior siding on the main body of the house to give it a prominence and a standalone quality that would allow the addition to recede and create a back drop for this portion of the house. This approach helped create a better sense of scale and, elegance and allowed the house to sit comfortably on the site and not overwhelm it. We also decided to turn the three car garage doors to the side so they would not overwhelm the front appearance. This decision allowed us to reduce the driveway to one side of the property while maintaining a turnaround for the cars and guest parking for three. This was also an ecologically and aesthetically pleasing solution, eliminating 60% of the paved surface which was replaced by an expansive front lawn with wonderful landscaping potential. The program included enlarging the entry foyer; expanding the existing dining room and living room; and creating two home offices, a new breakfast area and kitchen with a separate pantry, a new family room, a new master bedroom suite and a new three car garage.
Siding
Our clients, with a very limited budget, wished to add a new kitchen, breakfast area and mud room to their home. The existing house had very small windows and very low ceilings. So first we planned for high ceilings, a lot of glass and of course comfortable and well designed spaces. Because the client chose not to repair the existing stucco on the exterior, we decided to use a flat wood siding on the addition to distinguish it from the existing house. Next, we developed a design that used a simple box with a flat roof and windows concentrated in two bays. This solution minimized cost, reflecting the budget and maximized ceiling height while allowing for large glass areas which pulled in a lot of light and allowed them to enjoy the landscaping from the interior of the house.
