Pregnancy
Labor and Delivery
Pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood are times of blessing and joy for most women. While fortunate women can occasionally escape the physical alterations pregnancy causes, the truth is that the majority of women experience stretched skin, fat deposits, and weight gains in unflattering patterns. It is important that you realize that these unsightly changes are typical and normal.

Hysterectomy
Abdominoplasty is also known as a tummy-tuck. It has emerged as one of the most powerful tool in a plastic surgeonâ€™s arsenal of transforming procedures. It can thin out thick, bulky fatty tissue collections of the mid-abdomen, tighten stretched abdominal muscles to create a flat â€œsix-packâ€ appearance, and remove rolls of excess upper and lower tummy skin. The result is a mid-section that is more athletic in appearance, and one that fits into more attractive and flattering attire. These procedures may be combined with liposuction as well. They require about 3 hours of operating time. The patients seem to benefit from an overnight stay in the hospital and are up walking the first night after surgery. Light walking is recommended for the next 2-3 weeks. You can drive in 7-10 days, and total healing to include lifting, household duties, and sit-ups may take 4-6 weeks, not unlike a C-section or hysterectomy.

Plastic Surgeons

Botox
In some cases, the facial wrinkles and creases are not caused by muscle contraction, but rather gravity and tissue descent, Botox is not the answer. Dermal fillers are the â€œnew kid on the blockâ€ to allow the plastic surgeon to plump up the sunken creases and camouflage the gravitational descent of the tissues. Additionally these fillers work well to help those born with thin lips have a pouty, fuller lip appearance, and can also help sunken, traumatic facial scars be less noticeable. These fillers are carefully and artistically injected just below the skin and typically last for 3 to 12 months, depending on the region being injected. Our patients can usually return to full activity within 3 â€“4 hours, and may plan on socializing that evening.
Liposuction
Additionally, a new and promising use of liposuction is the option of re-injecting the fat removed from an area of excess into an area of fat deficiency. This is known as fat grafting (or fat transfer) and an excellent example would be removing fat from a womanâ€™s tummy and hips to create a waistline, while re-injecting some of the fat into the buttock area to add pleasant fullness in a very feminine way. The possibilities are endless.
Breast Augmentation
Enhancing oneâ€™s chest with state of the art silicone or saline implants is one of our most popular and satisfying procedures. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has set very high safety standards for todayâ€™s breast implants. You should feel very safe and confident that the devices we are implanting today are as safe as humanly possible. Some of the best reasons to seriously consider breast enlargement would include feeling out of proportion with the rest of your body (shoulders and hips), not being able to easily find clothes or swimsuits that fit, or simply feeling self conscious about lack of breast fullness. Perhaps you have friends or family who have already had great outcomes from this procedure. In all cases, the best way to get started is to come in to see Dr. Woods for a consult. If you are at least 35 years old, make sure your most recent mammogram has been within the last year.
Breast Reduction
Coming to work each day as a plastic surgeon is truly an enjoyable experience. To be able to operate on almost all areas of the human body, using a combination of scientific knowledge of human tissues coupled with artistic creativity in order to make an important difference for every one of our patients is incredibly rewarding. Of all the operations in a plastic surgeonâ€™s repertoire, a breast reduction may be the most satisfying for our patientâ€™s. Dr. Woods has tremendous respect for the daily hardship large and heavy breasts can cause a woman. We have learned how a breast reduction helps a woman in four distinct ways. First and foremost, removing several pounds of breast tissue from a womanâ€™s chest has been scientifically shown to relieve neck, shoulder, and back pain. We cannot overestimate how life transforming this pain relief can be for a womanâ€™s overall well being. Secondly, you will be able to find clothes that fit your new figure that are â€œoff the rackâ€ and actually flattering. Thirdly, you will be able to be more active and will want to exercise more now that you are not hauling several extra pounds of bulk on your chest. Activities like jogging, tennis, swimming, etc., will actually be fun. Finally, your self-image, self-esteem and emotions will become less centered around being known â€œas the girl with the large chestâ€ , and more focused on a well balanced feminine figure.
Breast Lift
Breasts can be altered by tightening (a breast lift â€“ or mastopexy), enlarging ( a breast implant â€“ or Augmentation) or some combination of the two, if needed. These are low impact operations, performed outpatient ( go home the same day) and typically require 2-3 weeks of light activity to recover from. We usually can return you to a youthful breast shape with minimal scarring and little discomfort.
Breast Reconstruction
Women with excess skin and fat in their lower abdomen may wish to utilize this tissue excess to create a new breast. Dr. Woods tends to recommend this most extensive surgery only if one of the above methods is absolutely not suitable for oneâ€™s breast reconstruction. TRAM or DIEP flaps require long abdominal scars, 4-10 hours of operating time, 2-4 days in the hospital, more pain and discomfort, and 5-6 weeks of recovery. In some cases, this may be the best method for a particular patient (especially if other attempts at reconstruction using simpler methods have failed).
Plastic Surgery
Doctor Woods sincerely values and respects the privacy of all of our patients. The openness, world-wide access, and lack of 100% security on the internet compels us to withhold release of our patients’ bodily images on an open internet site. While many physicians obviously feel that it is appropriate to share private images of their patients with the world, Dr. Woods does not. Face Lift

How about experiencing the self-consciousness of a â€œturkey gobblerâ€ neck appearance? Do you simply feel you look older or more tired than you feel? Are the competitors in your workplace looking younger and more energetic than you are? If any of these scenarios sounds like you over the last several years, you ought to at least consider a modern facelift.
Abdominoplasty
Tummy and body reshaping after childbirth can be achieved using tummy tucks ( also called Abdominoplasty) along with fat removal ( liposuction). The typical improvement of your stretched or bloated tummy tissue with a tummy tuck can yield a nice, smooth abdominal contour that 12 months in the gym with a personal trainer could never attain. A womanâ€™s stomach (â€œsix packâ€ ) muscles frequently pull outward during pregnancy and can be tightened and repositioned to restore a truly â€œflatâ€ abdomen. Additionally, the fat bulges of the tummy or hips or thighs that never went away after that 55 lb pregnancy weight gain can be easily sculpted away with liposuction done at the time of the tummy tuck. Theses procedures can take a little longer to perform and therefore to recover from ( 3-4 weeks) than breast procedures due to the way you use your abdomen for so many activities during the day.
Breast Surgery
As Dr. Woods reputation for breast surgery excellence has become widely known within the Atlanta area, he has treated an increasing number of women with less than satisfactory results from breast implant surgery. Breasts that have become firm due to internal scar tissue around the implant, breasts which are uneven in size or shape, or implants which need to be replaced, are all reasons to have a consult for breast implant revision or correction. Breast implants, whether made out of salt water (saline) or silicone are man-made devices and are not meant to last a life-time (or more than 20 years, in most cases). Correction of implant imbalances or scar encapsulation can be challenging procedures and you want them performed by a seasoned plastic surgeon. If you are not happy with your current implants, it may be extremely helpful and enlightening to have Dr. Woodsâ€™ opinion as to how you could be satisfied with your breast appearance once again. Almost all these procedures are performed outpatient, go home the same day, under general anesthesia. Healing time is 1 â€“ 3 weeks, and we try to use minimal scars when possible. Symmetry, balance, comfort and proportion are the end goals.
Body Contouring
The workhorse of many body contouring offerings is liposuction. Traditional liposuction, performed with modern thin canulas, is the gold standard all other body contouring methods are compared to. The excess, bulging fat is actually removed from your body, not simply â€œmeltedâ€ or â€œfrozenâ€ , waiting to be absorbed by your bodyâ€™s waste system. While there is some swelling, the results are seen almost immediately and this fat will not return assuming you do not put on another 25 lbs or so. Advantages of liposuction also include removing sizeable amounts of excess fatty tissues through a few 1/4 inch incisions, a short1-2 weeks of recovery, and early walking to get back up and moving soon after surgery. Abdomen, love handles, outer and inner thighs, back and arms are all popular hiding places for unwanted fat collections that the liposuction wand can reach.
Gynecomastia
A special topic within liposuction is male breast development, or Gynecomastia. An Ultrasonis version of liposuction is uniquely capable of breaking up the gritty substance of the breast to allow a contouring of the chest tissue into the desired, masculine form.
Forehead Lift
The four areas of oneâ€™s face which can benefit from modern facelift techniques are the forehead and eyebrow, the upper cheek and nasolabial fold, the jowls along the jawline, and the neck. The eyebrow and forehead can gently be lifted by way of concealed incisions along the front of the hairline. It usually takes only a quarter to half inch of eyebrow or forehead elevation to remove a tired expression, or wrinkles from the upper face and forehead. This simple procedure takes only one hour in the operating room and recovery is only one week. One half of our patients choose to have a forehead lift by itself, the other half elect to have the forehead elevated at the same time as the facelift.

Chemical Peels
While Botox and fillers are excellent on contour deformities, that still leaves fine surface wrinkles and poor quality skin to deal with. Dr. Woods has found that Chemical Peels offer a safe, reproducible, and effective option to Retin-A, or spa based microdermabrasion and light peels. Dr. Woodsâ€™ peel of choice is Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA). TCA can be applied to oneâ€™s entire face, or just to troubling areas individually (forehead, around the mouth, or lower eyelids). The peel takes 30 â€“ 45 minutes to apply. You will care for it by gently washing the peeled areas with your hands and mild soap three times a day, after which you will apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment. Your skin will begin peeling 2 â€“ 4 days after the treatment, and continue to peel for 5 â€“ 7 days. It will resemble a severe sunburn. After the outer 2 â€“3 layers of your dried out, wrinkled skin separates, you will be left with fresher, more youthful appearing skin.
