First United Methodist Church

I am not originally from Athens, but I have been going to this church for several years, and I find it a very open, warm and accepting atmosphere. I would recommend this church to anyone.



It is sad that the person who wrote both of these one star reviews didn't even step foot in this church and felt qualified to review the entire church based on a getting-to-know-you paragraph about our director of music ministry. Having first hand knowledge, I can unequivocally say that the music director is excellent and is highly trained. Ironically, she is actually a former trained chef as well. What gparkkkk obviously doesn't realize is that our music director is not at all discriminatory against Asian Americans or anyone else and at one point she had family that lived in Chinatown.



I suggest to anyone considering our church to just give it a try. I love it. Come in and visit-- especially before leaving a one star review. Twice no less.

Just want to share an unfortunate online experience i had with the FUMC of athens. I am new to the Athens/huntsville area and was online researching places of worship and came across the organization website. As an Asian America, i was rather offended at one of the staff interviews (the so called music director) on the page mocking Asian cooking and Chinese food. Im sure it was meant to come off as a joke but in a time when we are trying to be welcoming to others and keep an open mind, I think these statements from the staff may come off a bit close-minded. Not sure how diverse Athens is, as im new to the area but do i need to even question that?

This may come across as being a bit sensitive but as a person who has been on the receiving end of discrimination, I need to try and do what I can to ensure the political correctness in America. I sent an email to the pastor with no response. Im rather saddened that no one would respond to my email. That is why i am taking it online to the review sites and blogs to share this unfortunate experience with others
