        Mike Alves began working in the construction trades in the early 70s as caretaker for his grandparent rental properties; from paving to painting inside and out, to roofing and everything in between. This experience led Mike, along with his wife, Vera, to start his own general contracting business in 1981, Mike Alves Carpentry. In 1983, Mike changed his company name to West Coast Builders due to his expanding work along the North Coast. As time went on, Mike learned there was a need for roofers in Humboldt County, so he added a roofing license to his general contractor license in 1987. Mike became very successful in the roofing industry and started doing more roofing and associated work than general contracting. In 1994, Mike formed Alves Roofing as a distinct trade division under West Coast Builders. Throughout the 90s, Mike continued to expand their company’s services with his sons following in their fathers footsteps and becoming vital contributors in this growing family business. In 1997, Mike and Vera settled on a name for their company that best reflected their familys heritage and reputation for excellence in the construction trades, Alves Incorporated. In 2009, Mike and Vera relocated their company headquarters to West End Road in Arcata CA to better serve their valued customers and to develop their innovative and environmentally conscious recycling programs. Today, Alves Incorporated is a third generation, family owned and operated company specializing in the following distinct trade divisions: Roofing; Gutters & Downspouts; Paving, Concrete and Excavating; Construction Debris Recycling; and Alves Discount Carpet and Flooring.

        When we shopped around for car...

        When we shopped around for carpet, Discount Carpets & Flooring had the best prices in Eureka and Arcata. We've bought 3 rennet carpets for our house remodeling project so far. They've all held up to heavy traffic with pets. I couldn't be happier and look forward to give them all my flooring business!
