As far as I am aware, Sounds of Light has been the only area Christian bookstore for over the past thirty years, outside of a few years when a small shop operated in Tecumseh. I worked there under the owner, Mary Schaap, when I was in high school and college and found her to be very kind and generous. She was always doing something for her church that started LCS and for the school itself. The store has always maintained a good selection, and many of the employees have worked there for years. They are wonderful people. If they don't have something in stock, they order it. I am sure it is a challenge to compete with Amazon, but they're still open because they're meeting a need in the area. One of my sisters also worked under her part-owner husband, Lou, at his insurance agency for a brief period when she needed a part-time job and had no issues with him. I appreciate that the Schaaps have kept Sounds of Light open in the area, and I will continue to shop there.
