The team at Lepi Enterprises was hired by The Savings Bank of Circleville, Ohio to encapsulate, remove and dispose of asbestos contained or mold-contaminated building materials associated with the interior construction. Removal process on this project included drywall joint compound systems, countertop and suspended ceiling.
Flooring
One of the most concerning uses of mercury is in rubber floors, 3M brand Tartan Track, or flooring installed in the 1970s was produced using mercury as a catalyst. Other rubber tracks and gym floors may contain mercury as well. These floors are commonly found in schools and university gymnasiums. Studies have demonstrated the migration of mercury to items that are exposed to the floor such as balls and shoes. There is also evidence of tracking mercury to adjacent areas.

Lepi Enterprises was contracted by Coshocton County to complete courthouse renovations. This phase of the renovations focused on Judge Robert Batchelor's courtroom. The work included removing the dropped ceiling to reveal and restore the original ceiling, which featured three small murals depicting the Coshocton seal, the federal emblem and the Great Seal of Ohio. It also upgraded lighting and reopened and restored the balcony, which had been closed since about 1950, Miller said. For years, the walled-off balcony provided storage space for the court recorder, she said, but now could be available for more gallery space, if the judge so decides. In the courthouse's early days, men watched proceedings from the balcony, which then featured spittoons, while women shopped, Miller said. The biggest "hiccup" in this phase of the restoration came when workers discovered the plaster beneath the uncovered murals was beyond repair, according to Bailiff Barry Ackerman. That required Zanesville artist Alan Cottrell to recreate the murals on drywall. The courtroom restoration began Dec. 3 and was completed by its April 1 deadline, Miller said. Lepi Enterprises of Zanesville oversaw the work.
Framing
Its exterior highlights included three two-level Corinthian porticoes on three sides of the courthouse, a raised basement and a front, elevated entrance flanked by a hexastyle portico and a two flights of curved stairs, appointed with decorative metal lamp fixtures. The pediment was detailed with a dentiled cornice, framing a tympanum that was composed of a carving featuring justice, power, agriculture and mining, the work of W. D. Priest. Near the apex of the pediment was an eagle with outstretched wings that signified power, and below that was the Scales of Justice. To the right was a mining car and a shovel, with a man signifying the coal mining heritage. The porticoes at the east and west end of the courthouse was tetrastyle in design, with the Jefferson Street portico featuring a flight of steps. The domeâ€™s sides were pedimented and centered with the clock faces. The belvedere of the dome was surmounted by a large figure holding the Scales of Justice, and the roof of the dome included swags and oval reliefs.

This is a house that caught on fire. The green siding is asbestos containing transite. Many times in these situations the entire building has to be assumed to be asbestos containing and demolished and disposed of as regulated asbestos containing materials for two reasons. One it may not be structurally sound enough to perform sampling and/or abatement and two, any asbestos containing materials that were present are now contaminating the entire structure.

Because of its fiber strength and heat resistance asbestos has been used in a variety of building construction materials for insulation and as a fire retardant. Asbestos has been used in a wide range of manufactured goods but mostly in building materials such as roofing shingles, ceiling and floor tiles, paper products, asbestos cement product and heat-resistant fabrics.â€ The EPA also states that â€œasbestos fibers may be released into the air by the disturbance of asbestos-containing material during product use, demolition work, building or home maintenance, repair, and remodeling. In general, exposure may occur only when the asbestos-containing material is disturbed or damaged in some way to release particles and fibers into the air. Exposure to asbestos increases your risk of developing lung disease. That risk is made worse by smoking. In general, the greater the exposure to asbestos, the greater the chance of developing harmful health effects.â€

According to the EPA â€œconcern about indoor exposure to mold has been increasing as the public becomes aware that exposure to mold can cause a variety of health effects and symptoms, including allergic reactions.â€ Also, â€œMolds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any organic substance, as long as moisture and oxygen are present. There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, carpet, foods, and insulation. When excessive moisture accumulates in buildings or on building materials, mold growth will often occur, particularly if the moisture problem remains undiscovered or unaddressed. It is impossible to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment. However, mold growth can be controlled indoors by controlling moisture indoors. When mold growth occurs in buildings, adverse health problems may be reported by some building occupants, particularly those with allergies or respiratory problems. Remediators should avoid exposing themselves and others to mold-laden dusts as they conduct their cleanup activities. Caution should be used to prevent mold and mold spores from being dispersed throughout the air where they can be inhaled by building occupants.â€
