A detailed history and physical examination is the first step in the evaluation and management of low back pain. Imaging studies may be appropriate depending on your age, symptoms, medical history, and physical examination. If further diagnostic information is needed, X-rays are usually the first study performed to rule out any structural abnormalities. More advanced imaging studies include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scan, which can provide greater detail into the structures of the spine. Other diagnostic tests include electrodiagnostic studies to test and check muscles and nerves.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
Arthroscopy, also called arthroscopic surgery or minimally invasive surgery, is a method of diagnosing and treating joint problems that is both minimally invasive and low risk compared to traditional open surgery. Using a small, narrow tube that has a fiber-optic video camera on the end of it, an orthopedic surgeon will insert this into a small incision so that they can examine inside the joint. Everything that the camera sees is transmitted to a video monitor. Additionally, the orthopedic surgeon can perform arthroscopic surgery using small and precise instruments via additional incisions.

Jon Morgan, DPM completed his medical education at Scholl College/Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL. He went on to complete his surgical foot and ankle residency at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA and received specialty training in advanced wound and limb salvage techniques at the prestigious Georgetown University in Washington DC. Arthroscopic surgery: Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgery that uses a narrow tube with a fiber-optic video camera on the end to see inside the knee. Your orthopedic surgeon will make small incisions to insert the camera and the instruments they will use for the surgery. As far as knee pain solutions go, arthroscopy is usually reserved as the last form of treatment when all other forms have proven unsuccessful.

Tarun Bhargava, MD was the first fellowship trained hip surgeon to perform the minimally invasive direct anterior hip replacement in Kansas. He has been performing these since 2007 and to date has done over 2,500. He is very active in teaching this procedure nationally and internationally, as well as teaching total knee and revision knee techniques. Dupuytren contracture is a painless condition that causes one or more fingers to bend toward the palm of the hand. The affected fingers can’t straighten completely. This can easily be tested for by placing your hand flat on a table. If the palm does not touch, you have a “positive table top test”. You may first experience knots or bumps of tissue forming under the skin that look like calluses. These eventually create a thick cord that cause the fingers bending towards the palm. Dupuytren contracture most often affect the ring and litter fingers which can interfere with everyday activities such as placing your hands in your pockets, putting on gloves, shaking hands or working at your job.
