Dental Care
Unfortunately, dental cleanings, exams, and daily dental hygiene habits are often overlooked when it comes to our pets’ teeth. We, humans, have well-developed dental hygiene habits, but our furry friends don’t have the thumbs to hold a toothbrush. That’s why, when it comes to dental care, they need our help.
Vaccination
For the safety of all animals in our care, we require that all vaccinations be up to date. Even though we make every effort to make our patients feel comfortable during visits, they may be a little uneasy about new people, new surroundings and other pets. This is one of the reasons we ask you to restrain your pet. We recommend that animals be placed on a leash or in pet carriers before entering the waiting room.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
Dr. Shelley (Sobieray) Gallagher is originally from Indiana, Pennsylvania. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology/Pre-Vet from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2006. In 2010, Dr. Shelley obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She practiced in Hazleton, Pa for five years prior to joining the White Haven Veterinary Hospital in 2015. Dr. Shelley has special interests in ophthalmology and internal medicine. In her spare time, she enjoys running, painting and spending time with her husband, John, their two dogs, Max and Coco, and the best orange cat ever, Twinkie.
Behavioral Counseling
We love dogs and cats, but inviting them into our homes only works when we provide them with training that helps them understand the types of behaviors we expect and those which are unacceptable. Without proper training, our pets would have the run of the house and wouldn’t be very pleasant to live with. At White Haven Veterinary Hospital, our veterinarians can help you get started with teaching your dog or cat how to behave properly in addition to helping you eliminate unwanted behaviors and behavior-related problems such as aggression, separation anxiety, and general unruliness.
Nutritional Counseling
When pets are overweight or obese, they’ll benefit from losing weight. Our veterinarians will assess your pet and work with you to determine a reasonable and healthy weight loss plan that combines dietary adjustments and regular, incremental exercise.

Illness Treatment

Parasites Treatment and Control
Each wellness examination begins with a whiskers-to-tail physical examination. We might also recommend running a basic blood panel, intestinal parasite screening, and/or additional diagnostic tests to further screen pets for early signs of health problems.
Pain Management
Healthy adult dogs and cats should visit the veterinarian once per year for a wellness examination, vaccine boosters, and a checkup. Puppies, kittens, senior pets, and pets living with chronic medical conditions typically require more frequent veterinary visits to complete their vaccinations, perform health screenings, and to continue ongoing pain management or prescription medications.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
Vaccines are considered to be incredibly safe for pets, and the benefits far outweigh the potential risks. Although there is some risk of allergic reactions, actual adverse events are rare. Upon administering a vaccine, our veterinarians will make you aware of the signs of adverse reactions to look for. Additionally, we will only administer the vaccines deemed necessary for your pet’s health.
Intestinal Foreign Object Removal
Ultrasound is often recommended for diagnosing sick pets with various symptoms, assessing organ and joint function, observing the circulatory system, monitoring pregnancy, evaluating tumors, assisting with foreign object removal surgery, and more.

Infection Treatment

Leptospirosis Treatment
Non-core vaccines are entirely elective and recommended on a case-by-case basis. Even though these vaccinations are labeled as non-core, most of them are still very important for your pet. Some non-core vaccines protect pets from contracting diseases like leptospirosis, bordetella, feline leukemia, and canine influenza.
Parvovirus Infection Treatment
Core vaccines include those that are required by local law and those that are strongly recommended for all pets. Some core vaccines protect pets from diseases like rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and lyme.
Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
The bacteria associated with periodontal disease (a bacterial infection of the gums) can get into the bloodstream and damage a pet’s organs. Left unaddressed, gum disease can cause early death.

With these conditions, there is damage and degeneration of the cartilage that lines the joints that normally creates a smooth service for bones to glide on. Instead of managing pain with medications such as anti-inflammatories that can have negative long-term side effects, we now can offer an alternative method that targets the underlying lack of cartilage and tries to rebuild new healthy tissue.
