Spawn Mate is a subsidiary of Monterey Mushrooms, which provides growing, shipping and marketing services for the fresh mushrooms it distributes. The company is one of the United States largest national marketers of fresh mushrooms, supplying products for sale to supermarkets, food service and ingredient manufacture operations and for the preparation of processed, canned and frozen mushroom products. Monterey s BioTechnical Group includes the Amycel and Spawn Mate companies that produce and sell mushroom spawn and nutritional growing supplements and activators to mushroom growers throughout the world. Established in 1971 as a single-farm operation, Monterey has grown into an international, multi-facility company. Spawn Mate is located in Watsonville, Calif.
