Beginning Yogis

Basic/Intro
We recommend starting with one of the Basic/Intro classes as an introduction to yoga, basic postures and breathing technique. For additional variety also explore any of the Yin or Yin & Yang classes which are also appropriate for beginners. If you are new to White Lotus, please arrive for your first class a few minutes early to complete a new student form. Parking is available in both the front and back of the building and we have both front and rear door entrances. Mats are available for a $1-per-day rental fee. Our average class temperature is a comfortable 75 degrees. Yin classes are slightly cooler which is more conducive to deep stretching of connective tissues and joints. Temperatures for our 'Hot' classes range between 80-85 degrees to gently heat up the muscles for greater flexibility. We are not a Bikram studio and our class temperature does not exceed approx. 85 degrees, as we do not believe there are health benefits beyond this temperature range

White Lotus is one of only select studios in the entire metro-Detroit area offering Aerial Yoga and all of our instructors are AIReal YogaTM certified - the only aerial yoga certification endorsed by Yoga Alliance. http://www.airealyoga.com/. AIReal YogaTM is similar to a traditional Yoga practice but with the added benefit of a soft, fabric hammock suspended a few feet off the ground. The hammock is a prop, like a strap or block, intended to assist alignment, deepen awareness, and provide the immediate benefits of spinal decompression. With the weight of the body partially or fully supported, along with the help of gravity, you can explore and create space in your body - but without the limitations of the floor! Absent compression of the joints and spine in an aerial hammock (as is the case when standing or seated on the floor) you can achieve proper posture and alignment through relaxation, rather than effort, to find a more balanced and unencumbered expression of each pose. GET IN A HAPPY MOOD: A key benefit of AIReal YogaTM is that it gets your adrenaline going and releases "HAPPY" hormones like serotonin, endorphins, and dopamine to boost your mood and feel more energetic. Whether this is your first time taking an aerial yoga class or you have some aerial experience, our instructors tailor each class to the needs of the participants attending that day. You will learn proper cues and placement of the hammock to make AIReal Yoga a safe and fun experience. Each class includes flowing postures, deep stretches, toning of the core, and aerial inversions for a safe way to open the body into a state of health. At the end of all of our AIReal YogaTM classes enjoy a relaxing savasana enveloping and cradling your body like a floating cocoon! Please pre-register online for each AIReal YogaTM class you wish to attend on a first-come, first-serve basis as space is limited. Payment is required in advance to hold your spot. AIReal YogaTM classes may be purchased individually, as packages, or as an addition to Monthly Unlimited Yoga and are not included as part of the 10 Classes for $29 New Student Offer or regular yoga class packages (see Pricing page for details). Dress comfortably with regular yoga attire and avoid very loose fitting clothing. Long sleeves and yoga pants vs. shorts are recommended. Please leave jewelry such as earrings, large rings, dangling bracelets and watches at home to avoid catching or tearing of the aerial hammocks

Our certified AIReal Yoga instructors will lead a fun aerial class designed for the experience level of your group on a date and time of your choosing. They'll also workshop any particular poses or aerial skills you're interested in and take photos of you and your pals in inversions if you like. $25 per person with minimum 5-7 participants required
