Overall
My family relocated to Tuscalo...

My family relocated to Tuscaloosa, AL from NY this past summer. Our 6 year old triplet sons are thriving at the Capitol School. The focus on differentiated learning and multi-sensorial approaches to learning are a wonderful match for our children. They are engaged, stimulated, challenged and happy. There are many opportunities for parents to get involved and the community has a very close-knit, community oriented feeling. In first grade, our children are taking German, Spanish, Violin, and Piano in addition to reading programs, computer time, field trips and math, social studies and science. We are a very process oriented family, and, although this seems like it might be a lot academically, the hands-on, play oriented approach to learning really engages the kids and they don't come home feeling like they have done "work." The disciplinary culture of the school is one based on problem solving and negotiation. It is a priority for us to keep our children at the Capitol School as we really do feel like we are helping them become responsible citizens of the world.

Overall
Happy, child-centered environment

We've had two of our three children attend Capitol School for preschool and now one child is in Kindergarten. We've been very pleased with the individualized attention given to children, the range of offerings (Spanish and German instruction in preschool!), the generous amount of time spent playing outdoors, the quality of the instruction in all subjects, and the welcoming atmosphere. I wouldn't send my children anywhere else. Thanks, Capitol School!

Overall
Our son attended a great public school

While our son transferred to the Capitol School from what is considered by many to be one of the best school districts in the U.S. (Chapel Hill, NC), his educational experience at the Capitol School has far surpassed his educational experience at his previous school. At the Capitol School, we have found that the individualized lesson plans, the continuous evaluation of student progress through testing, and high expectations are providing our son, and students of all abilities, with an environment in which to excel. Our son is currently studying a range of subjects, from mathematics to music, from reading and writing to drama, and from multiple languages to science. At the Capitol School, the talents of each student are recognized and nurtured. We know that the small class sizes and individual attention our son is receiving at the Capitol School are preparing him to succeed in the larger world.
