Wellness Exams
Tenafly Veterinary Center offers a wide range of veterinary services for pets including pet wellness and preventative medicine, diagnosing and treating illness, surgical procedures, dental treatment, and more.
Vaccination
At Tenafly Veterinary Center, we know that regular exams paired with vaccinations and preventative medicine are integral to keeping your furry friends happy and healthy. We also understand that veterinarian visits can be stressful for pets and their owners. We approach each pet the way that they need to be handled and will do everything to make sure they feel comfortable and calm in our examination rooms. If your pet has special needs, please let us know how we can accommodate his or her needs to make the visit as pleasant as possible.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
Glaucoma testing measures the pressure in each eye quickly and painlessly using a tonometer. Undetected glaucoma leads to irreversible blindness.
Nutritional Counseling
Gastrointestinal Procedures may be recommended by your veterinarian to address an ingested foreign object or any ongoing digestive issues your pet may have. Common signs of digestive distress include vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, loss of appetite, and abdominal bloating and painfulness.
Comprehensive Examination
Like a credit card, but better. CareCredit® works just like a regular credit card, but without high interest rates, annual fees or pre-payment penalties. CareCredit® offers no-interest and low interest payment terms, zero hidden fees, and low minimum monthly payments. You can use your CareCredit® card over and over for all your pet’s follow-up care as well as annual exams and vaccines. So you can focus on what really matters, like playing fetch and learning new tricks.
Intestinal parasite screen: make sure your pet is free of internal parasites that can cause diarrhea and consume vital nutrients your pet needs to grow healthy. Please bring a fresh fecal sample with you.
Pain Management
Pain Management At Tenafly Veterinary Center, we believe that managing both acute and chronic pain in pets is the heart of compassionate and effective veterinary care. Our goal is to work with your and your pet throughout every stage of their life to help prevent, manage, and eradicate pain. The two classifications of pain we refer to are acute and chronic. Each type of pain affects animals in different ways and each case is unique. This is why our highly experienced team at Tenafly Veterinary Center strongly encourages annual wellness checks in order to examine and evaluate any signs of pain, however small they may be.
In the case that a new kitten will make your home a multi-cat household, we recommend testing your kitten for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) before introducing them to your other cats. It’s important to remember that introducing a new kitten can be a slow and sometimes strenuous process since cats are inherently territorial. Patience is extremely important, so it’s key not to rush this. It’s best practice to keep your new kitten in a separate room in your home for a while so they can get used to each other's smell. If you have questions or want advice on how to best introduce a new kitten, please feel free to call us!
Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
Fleas are small, invasive bugs that hide in the fur of both cats and dogs and can cause a range of ailments including dermatitis, itching, bacterial infections, allergies, and hair loss. The most important thing to remember when dealing with fleas is that a female flea can lay up to 50 eggs per day in your pet’s fur, so the best way to stop the infestation is to prevent it with year-round regulation, medication, and grooming.
Ear Infection Treatment
Anal Gland Infection Treatment
Many of our veterinary therapy patients are older animals with musculoskeletal ailments. Some signs that your senior companion is experiencing pain or discomfort are...
Thyroid Testing shows whether or not the thyroid is properly functioning, specifically checking if the thyroid is producing hormones necessary for regulating energy and metabolism.
Heart Disease Treatment
Blood pressure measurement lets our team check for hypertension. Just as in humans, high blood pressure in pets can lead to kidney problems, heart disease, blindness, and other complications.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Blood chemistry tests measure levels of various substances in the blood and diagnose diseases such as diabetes, liver and kidney failure.
Digital Radiography, more commonly known as digital x-ray, is a critical tool that helps our clinical team accurately and efficiently diagnose medical conditions in our clients. At Tenafly Veterinary Center, we are home to advanced digital x-ray technology we use for both routine and emergency examinations. By using digital radiography, we are able to assess the health of almost any organ in your pet’s body, including the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs. X-rays allow our highly qualified clinical team to give your pet a more comprehensive examination and uncover any potential ailments such as tumors, bone fractures, abnormalities, etc.
The most commonly performed oral surgery is exodontia or extraction of teeth. Periodontal disease is the most common reason for tooth extraction in veterinary practice.
Veterinary Surgery
Whether it’s a routine checkup or emergency surgery, you shouldn’t have to worry about how to get the best medical care for the pet you love. That’s why we’re pleased to offer CareCredit®, North America’s leading client payment program. CareCredit® lets you say “yes†to the best treatment for your pet immediately, and pay for it over time with low monthly payments that fit easily into your budget.
Laser Surgery
Laser surgery is a safe alternative to traditional surgery. As the name implies, this particular type of surgery is performed using a highly focused, handheld laser beam.
Spaying and Neutering
Our recommendation is that all our pet clients that will not be ethically bred should be spayed or neutered between 5-12 months of age (before they reach sexual maturity). Not only does spaying and neutering help curb any aggressive or harmful sexual behaviors, the procedure has a variety of benefits that can help your pet live a longer, happier, healthier life. Read more below.
We combined class 4 laser therapy session with each visit. No drugs. No expensive blood work. We also use Rx diet called JM to support the joints.
X-Ray
At Tenafly Veterinary Center, we opt to use digital radiography rather than traditional film x-rays because it is a quicker process and more comfortable process for your pet. During the procedure, a miniscule, safe amount of radiation is omitted to get a clear picture of the size, shape, and position of the organs and bones in your pet. During this quick procedure, our staff will be right there to keep your pet calm and still while the images are being taken.
Microchipping
Once inserted and registered with a pet recovery database, the microchip will stay with your pet for life and greatly increase your chances of being reunited with your pet if they are ever lost or stolen. We also highly recommend using collars and ID tags in addition to microchipping so your pet can be as safe as possible.
Senior Pet Care At Tenafly Veterinary Center, we use senior testing to promote early detection and treatment of disease, so we can maintain health and prevent illness during your pet’s senior years. Early detection of disease often gives us more effective and less costly treatment options. Senior testing also helps establish normal baseline values for your pet, creating a point of comparison for the future.
