Overall

I'm very impressed with my recent visit. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. You can really tell they care about your animals, they talked to them and loved on them like I would. Also, the prices are very reasonable and in some cases way cheaper than other vets in the area. I would definitely recommend Town & Country to anyone in need of a veterinarian.

Preventive Care

Dental Care
Most dogs need a dental by the age of 4 and then every year or two thereafter. Cats are more variable in their dental cleaning needs. Frequency is determined by the individual, diet, and use of dental products. Canned food and table scraps tend to result in more tartar and periodontal disease than dry food.
Vaccination
Puppies and kittens should start vaccinations at 6 weeks of age and have boosters every 3 weeks until they are 14 - 16 weeks old in pups, 12 - 14 weeks old in kittens.
Behavioral Counseling
The first thing to do is to rule out any medical problems that may be causing the issue. Urinary tract infections, bladder stones and intestinal parasites can cause elimination problems. While cats can have behavioral problems that can cause litter box issues, they do not go outside the litter box to be mean or spiteful.
Comprehensive Examination
Physical Exam: Every cat should have a physical exam at least once a year. Your vet will check for potential problems, listen to its heart and lungs, feel for abnormalities in its abdomen and legs, and check for skin tumors.

Parasites Treatment and Control
Heartworms: All dogs should be tested yearly for heartworms and receive a monthly preventative, which is designed to prevent getting heartworms as well as deworming for roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
Skin: Check your cat regularly for fleas, as evidenced by flea droppings (small black dots), sores, or reddened areas. Cats can have allergic reactions to fleas, food, contact allergens, or inhaled allergens.

Feline Retro Virus Treatment
Vaccinations should include FVRCP with VS-FCV and rabies for all cats. We recommend testing kittens and new adult additions to the household for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Cats that are at risk should also receive Feline Leukemia and FIV vaccines.
Ear Infection Treatment
Shaking the head is a common sign seen with ear infections. Although ear mites occur frequently in cats, they are uncommon in dogs. Dogs usually have an infection caused by either yeast, bacteria, or a mixture of the two in their ears.

Lab work: Cats, especially seniors (those 6 years and up), should have lab work done every year. This will tell the vet a lot about the health of your cat, and help spot potential problems, such as kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, and hyperthyroidism, so treatment can be started at an earlier stage.
Heart Disease Treatment
This is our ECG machine (right) that also is able to monitor BP, pulse, oxygen saturation, and body temperature. The item on the left is our suction unit.
Kidney Disease Treatment
The most common cause of bad breath is tartar accumulation or periodontal disease. Other causes include kidney disease, infection and cancer. Your pet should be examined to determine if he/she needs a dental or blood work.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Teeth: Cats acquire an accumulation of tartar on their teeth overtime. Brushing their teeth does slow the accumulation of tartar. Periodontal disease can cause abscessed teeth and bad breath. Routine dentals are recommended.

Laboratory Services
These are our hematology and blood chemistry machines. With these machines we can run routine blood work while you wait. It takes between 10 and 30 minutes to get results, depending on which panel is run.

Dr. Lisa Webb went to college at VA Tech and earned a B.S. degree in Biochemistry, graduating Magna cum Laude. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Upon graduating, she began Town & Country Veterinary Service working as a large animal vet, making house calls, and working as a relief vet for various small animal hospitals. She opened Town & Country Animal Hospital on June 19, 2000. She enjoys working with her clients and their precious pets. She currently lives with 2 cats and 1 dog in the house.
