Founded in 1953, Hillsborough Association for Retarded Citizens is a community-based nonprofit organization providing opportunities, resources, support and advocacy services to youths and adults with developmental disabilities. It offers various programs and services for empowering persons with disabilities, including adult work and senior services, supported employment, supported living and behavioral programming. It also provides transportation and community inclusion programs. It offers vocational training, treatment of adjustment problems, homes for supported and independent living, and recreational and social activities. Its Time Limited Employment program provides placement to persons who do not need the long-term support of supported employment. Its HomeLink program offers employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and the homebound elderly. It also conducts research and study programs in Alzheimer s disease and Down syndrome. The organization is located in Tampa, Fla.
