Vaccination
Wandermere Animal Hospital is partnering with Washington State University to try and eliminate Rabies across the globe by 2030. For every Rabies vaccine that is administered in our hospital $1 will be donated to the WSU Rabies Foundation. This money helps them spread awareness of the disease and helps dogs in 3rd world countries receive vaccinations. Veterinary Ophthalmology
Your pet may be referred to the animal eye clinic for ocular surgeries, glaucoma, or unresolved eye disease. Dr. Bill Yakley and Dr. Kevin Kaiser are both board certified veterinary ophthalmalogists.

Nutritional Counseling
Dietary Counseling: We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance or reduction, and performance. We can also provide you with prescription diets designed to aid in the treatment of specific disorders. Please check with one of our receptionists to see if your prescription diet is readily available. In some cases it may take up to a week to make a special order for your pet's needs.
Comprehensive Examination
Today's modern anesthetic monitors have made surgery much safer than in the past. Here at Wandermere Animal Hospital, we do a thorough physical exam on your pet before administering anesthetics, to ensure that a fever or other illness won't be a problem. We also adjust the amount and type of anesthetic used depending on the health of your pet.

Behavioral Disorder Treatment
Recommended to be given to all dogs. Generally given in a puppy series until 16 weeks of age, then 1 year later. After that it can safely be given every 3 years and still provide immunity.
Pain Management
Anything that causes pain in people can be expected to cause pain in animals. Pets may not show the same symptoms of pain as people do; they usually don't whine or cry, but you can be sure they feel it. Pain medications needed will depend on the surgery performed. Major procedures require more pain relief than things like minor lacerations.

Hip Dysplasia Treatment
It depends on which company and plan you choose. Most plans cover many types of treatment for traumatic injuries and diseases. In some plans you can even get coverage for preventative health care such as vaccinations, dental cleanings, and wellness screens. Often times treatment for genetic diseases, such as hip dysplasia, are excluded from the plans, as are conditions acquired prior to the purchase of the plan.

Heartworms are very tiny worms that are transmitted by a particular species of mosquitoe. They usually enter the bloodstream and set up home in the right atrium of the heart. Untreated infections usually lead to heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. Both dogs and cats can become infected with heartworms, however infections in cats are not as common. Heartworms are spread easily in some areas of the country. However, heartworm is not endemic (meaning the risk of transmission is very low) in Washington state.

Pre-op blood panel: This panel tests for anemia, liver and kidney disease, and diabetes prior to anesthesia.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
About 85% of adult dogs and cats have some form of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease occurs when plaque, a colorless film that contains bacteria, builds up. With time plaque causes bad breath, pain, and gingival infections. Ultimately this results in the loss of tissues and bone that supports the teeth. There is also evidence to suggest that the mouth can be a source of bacteria that can spread to the heart, liver, lungs, or kidneys.

Dental Surgery
Your pet may be referred here for extensive dental surgery, dental radiographs, or endodontics. Pacific NW Veterinary Dentistry is owned and operated by Dr. Tammy White, a board certified veterinary dentist. She is also affiliated with WSU-VTH.
Veterinary Surgery
Surgical Services: Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of routine surgical procedures. We can also provide you with a referral to a nearby surgical specialist for complicated surgical procedures.
Spaying and Neutering
Most procedures involving sutures require them to be removed in 14 days following the surgery. Sutures used in spay and neuter procedures are typically absorbable and do not need to be removed.

Laboratory Services
This is a blood test that is run here in the clinic prior to surgery. It tests the organ functions, blood counts and clotting function of your pet. The pre-anesthetic blood screening is done to assure safety during surgery and the ability to heal following surgery.

Dentistry: Our dental services include teeth cleaning, polishing, fluoride treatments, sealing, tooth extractions, digital dental radiography, and oral surgery.
Microchipping
Microchips are a very popular means of permanantly identifying your pet and helping in the recovery process if they are to escape or get lost. The chips are sterile, inert, and tiny. This means that they are designed to be inserted under your pets skin and remain there for life. There are rarely any complications except that sometimes a chip can move under the skin and end up in spot that doesnt get read by the scanner. In these cases it is wise to place a second chip, but the old one does not need to be removed.

Grooming
Bathing: Therapeutic bathing services are available. If your pet needs general grooming and bathing we recommend Sylvano's Grooming at 315-7808 or The Yuppy Puppy at 467-8221, both are located on the northside.
Senior Pet Care
We recommend senior testing for all senior pets as well as any pet who is exhibiting one or more of the following symptoms: weight loss or gain, increased thirst or urination, lethargy, vomiting/diarrhea, poor hair coat, coughing, seizures, unusual behavior, or overall decline in condition.
Dog Training
Behavioral Counseling: We can provide advice regarding general obedience, and the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression. We are also lucky to be able to refer difficult behavioral cases to certified trainers at Diamonds in the Ruff, Northern Tails Dog Training, and Paw and Order. In some cases we will refer to a local animal behaviorist Dr. Patricia Simonet.
