Best studio downriver!

I would recommend Dance Avenue to every family that is looking for a healthy learning environment for their children as well as getting the very most for their dollar. The instructors at Dance Avenue are all deeply invested in teaching every child both the skills of dance as well as an educational background to each dance style. The studio is beautiful and their awesome wood sprung board dance floors are the best around. Their pricing is extremely fair and they offer both a multiple class discount as well as a family discount. I am very happy with this studio and glad that we found a happy home for children to dance and learn!

It's like Family there!!! My daughter is going on her 6th year there and we wouldn't go anywhere else. She tried a community center dance class once and it almost ruined her love of dance. I am soooo glad we found Dance Avenue. They are professional, motivating, fun, family oriented and extremely talented!

Downriver's Finest!

I've been to a lot of dance recitals downriver, & I am thrilled that my daughter dances here. The shows are very entertaining & upbeat, & the dancers are technically superior to anyone else I've seen in the area. As for the owners, I couldn't ask for sweeter, friendlier or classier role models for my daughter. They choose tasteful music and costumes! I'm not one to typically write online reviews, but after reading the comment below, I felt I needed to let everyone know what a great place this is. Try it out. You'll be happy you did!

Amazing Studio!

Dance Avenue is amazing! I honestly love the owners more than anything in this world! The teachers/staff are super sweet, the dancers are wonderful, and recitals are very entertaining! I could go on for hours but will spare you the time and strongly suggest that you just go in for a visit and meet the amazing staff yourself! You will be glad you did! :-)

This place is my second home , the staff and students are very friendly and helpful. The owners are amazing!! After shopping around other studios, I am extremely happy with my decision !! My daughter has been dancing for 4 years, I am pleased with her development and the positive reinforcement that the staff gives to my daughter.

Dance Avenue is my second home...

Dance Avenue is my second home. The two women who run it are the kindest, most respectful women out there. The recital is so organized (it can be a little hectic back stage but let's face it, every recital/show/competition is hectic backstage). The backstage moms are there to help between every quick change. Coming from someone who had at LEAST 2 dances between my numbers, the backstage moms kept me on track and ready to go! :) When my little sister went on stage for hip hop and they called the number again, I was really wondering why they would perform a number twice.. When my sister came off stage, she informed me that one student wasn't on stage in time for the dance.. So instead of telling the kid to suck it up or something like that, they kept it professional, and informed the audience that they would see the dance a second time! The student got their chance on stage, the chance they were waiting for since September. I thought that was so kind of the owners to do. Also, at the end of every recital, they award thousands of dollars in scholarships. It really helps, especially in today's tough times. I received a $450 scholarship last year and it is REALLY going to help with next year's costs.

Also, they do a GREAT job with teaching the little ones. I assistant taught with two other girls, and we also had an instructor teaching. On average, I believe there are 15-17 students per class, with 2-3 instructors and a teacher. That's actually very good! They have viewing weeks throughout the year, and when practicing the recital routine, parents are usually invited to watch their children. Personally, I believe that seeing the students a few times a year shows greater improvement.. But that's just me. :)

The studio's parking lot is a little snug, but look at how much the studio has grown! I don't think the owners thought their studio was going to become this large!

Overall, this place is my second home. I wouldn't want to dance anywhere else.. I love the teachers, owners, and other students as much as my own family. I consider everyone here my second family and I wouldn't trade the feeling I have for the world.

This is the best dance studio ...

This is the best dance studio downriver....hands down! My girls have danced there for several years after attending other studios, and we love it here. This is a true dance family! The instructors care about your children, not only as students, but as CHILDREN!! The nurture as well as teach the art and love of dance. The other reviews talk of shorter recitals and the little ones having to wait, but having attended two other studios recitals this year, the caliber of our recital was definitely worth the time and money spent. And none of the recitals that I attended had all of the little ones lined up at the beginning so they could be done first, they were always spread out within the recital. The LADIES that operate Dance Avenue do not deserve the bashing that they are receiving here. Nothing is stated that if there are large classes (the largest preschool class was 17), there are trained classroom assistants to aide the students. This is a teacher/student ratio of 1:6. A studio with 8-10 students and 1 teacher would be considered a larger class than Dance Avenue. And the redo at the recital was due to a child missing their cue and being off the stage completely, not "messing up and getting a redo." I thought that showed compassion to that family that spent money to watch their child dance in the recital, just as she had to watch hers.

My kids have danced at Dance Avenue for a few years now. From the quality of dance instruction to the care and attention given to students, I could not ask for a more perfect studio for our family. The instructors are talented, highly-skilled, trained professionals who handle the students at just the right pace, level of study, and compassion. My kids absolutely love each and every one of the teachers, and I can honestly say they love them back. The curriculum and approach of Dance Avenue focuses on the enjoyment of dancing for the students. They understand that the kids must have fun in order to develop their love of dance and continue with it as a lifelong activity or career. This isn't to say they are easy on them either. The balance of fun combined with the structured discipline of dance itself at the Dance Avenue studio is the perfect formula for helping the kids to grow and mature not just on the dance floor, but also in life as well.

Every student is treated with respect and love equally as a member of the Dance Avenue family. We are not competition team members, yet we feel just as important to the owners and instructors as anybody else in the building. Because of this open feel, both my wife and I volunteer to help with the recitals. And it is a real pleasure to be part of such a spectacular event. The kids work so hard all year round with their instructors to put on an amazing performance for the audience, and rise to the occasion every year. It makes me happy seeing the kids beam with pride after performing for their families in such a professional, well-choreographed event. That pride comes directly from the camaraderie, teamwork, and care that is generated at Dance Avenue throughout the school year.

I highly recommend Dance Avenue to anyone interested in dance instruction for his/her child, from beginning introduction to advanced training and any level in between.

Overall

My kids have been dancing at Dance avenue since the day they opened. I wouldnt send them anywhere else. Not because there are no other studios, but because I believe in the integrity of the owners. They're not just here to make money, contrary to some other reviews. They really care about the kids, and since the day they opened the doors, they have been working towards building a better studio FOR the KIDS. Its not just showing up at 5 in the afternoon and working for a few hours, then back home to sleep till 4 the next day and do it again. I have witnessed firsthand the amount of time and energy it takes to get the dances from the beginning steps in september to the final steps on stage in june. I've also seen how crazy it can get in and out of the studio. Yes, its kind of small. Thats because the owners do such a great job that the studio has just kept on growing over the last few years. Yes, there is limited parking in the lot, so alot of parents park on the sidestreets and walk over. I prefer to park across Eureka in the GIANT PARKING LOT that is never full. As for the recital, I've seen others that are shorter, im sure there are others that are cheaper, but again, you get what you pay for. I was there in the audience when they brought the same dance back out again for a second performance. The kid missed the cue and wasnt on stage when they should have been. Other studios might have just said 'oh well, sucks to be you...' but not dance ave. They stopped the entire show, got that kid where they needed to be, and said 'now get out there and dance" Not out of selfishness, but because that kids parents payed to be in that audience too, and how crappy would it be to spend ten months and hundreds of dollars and you never get to see your kid on stage. I saw the same song again and i clapped louder the second time. I never even thought of being so selfish that i would complain about giving that kid another three minutes of my life. So if you need a decent studio that cares about your kids, check out dance avenue. Im not even getting paid to write this.

Dance Avenue otherwise known as DA is one of the most upbeat dance studio's I have dance at during my whole life. The studio is family oriented; they welcome all who enter the studio with open arms. I have danced there for many years, not to mention I drive 45 minutes there and back. Recently I have taken sick, and with being ill; the studio has stayed in touch with. With sending me with cards, emails, and other was one could be supporteds. So in return I have supported them.. I have recently received a certificate to have any studio of my choice, along with 50 or more fellow friends/dancer be taught a 2-hour class by the Broadway Musical “Billie Elliot” and TV assistant Choreographer of SMASH “Ryan Kasprzak”.... I chose Dance Avenue because to me they are a true meaning of what I call “family with love”.. Dance Avenue supports people all ages, love unconditionally, and know how to have fun and at the same time be professional at the job. If you or anyone else is every looking for a studio with family values “Dance Avenue” is your family... DA I love you and I am forever grateful for your support... I have danced at this studio in my adult life, and dancing there allows my inner child to dance like no-one is judging. They even allow adults on the stage for recitals, now that's AWESOME.... Yes, the crowd usually screams for more.... Were just that good... Try it out, you wont regret it.. Sherry H

Dance Avenue

Where do I begin? Dance Avenue is such an incredible place. I can honestly say it's my second home. All the dancers and instructors are like my family! Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I've been a part of Dance Avenue for about 7 years now and I will never regret it! Dance Avenue has molded me into the person and dancer I am today. If you or your child enroll in Dance Avenue's amazing, fun classes it will be an unforgettable experience that you will never forget! Dance Avenue also has a remarkable Competitive Dance Team that competes in a variety of competitions. I am also involved in the competition team and I love it. Something about performing and competing for Dance Avenue brings me great joy because i know all of my teammates and teachers are cheering me on! Dance Avenue is somewhere you would want to be because there's nothing like a place where you feel right at home!

It would be hard to say what is least impressive about Dance Avenue, the studio or the recital. The studio is very small and gloomy with the old carpet being held together in places with duct tape. There is not enough seating in the very tight waiting area, many of us are left on the nasty carpet or standing. They over pack the class rooms with up to 20 little ones in one class. There are no viewing windows. There is no respect for class room etiquette the door to the class room is constantly revolving while class is in session, and most often not by a student. Parking is horrendous, there may be 10 parking spots for all these overloaded classes. Parents have to park blocks away & walk to Eureka. The recital was a mess itself, it was way too long and way over priced. If you had a toddler ballerina, they were backstage for at least 3 hours before it was their turn, everyone was baffled as to why they would have the youngest dancers, fully dressed & waiting so long. The teachers even came out and did a dance routine before the toddlers, showing us all who is more important to them. Intermission was even before the youngest dancers (3-4 yrs), who can get tired and bored and hungry for 3 hours of doing anything but waiting in their costume with their hair and makeup done was beyond ridiculous. The audience was hearing backstage talking over the mic, some of the routines were brought back on stage and done for a second time. The audience was already getting restless & dwindling by the dance. We will not be returning, in fact, we have been looking at the numerous other studios in the area and found another local studio to dance this summer. The first impression of this other studio blew us away, they are very clean, very professional, only take 8-10 students per class & have large viewing windows so you can watch your dancer while you wait! There are numerous studios in the area do a little research and find one that takes pride in itself, is not greedy with over crowding and that you and your dancer can take pride in.

After working so hard and paying for 10 months of practice, the recital was a traumatic heartbreak for my 3 year old ballerina and her family and friends. Many of the “seasoned” volunteer moms backstage are unapproachable and down right nasty to the dancers & the newer moms, yelling at them and telling them to shut up. One of these nasty volunteers yelled right in my 3 year old daughters face spraying her with spit just seconds before her first ever performance on stage. There was no performance for my daughter & her family, just a traumatized little girl holding back tears of fear, hurt & embarrassment in front of hundreds. My daughter has never been treated so rudely in her little life nor has she witnessed anyone treat someone else with such foul disrespect. I was not back there in that moment to witness this myself but the older ballerinas rushed back to our dressing room to console her immediately after, because it was that traumatic, it did not go unnoticed and to explain to me the incident and tell me this women had been treating all the dancers very nasty. The owners and instructors are all backstage so if they are not capable of ensuring my daughter, as well as all the dancers, are not being abused verbally or in any manner then Dance Avenue is not for us. When I began to explain this to the owner she immediately told me I was over reacting w/o bothering to hear me out or to even talk to the other dancers who witnessed the actual incident, or even inquire if my daughter was okay or even offer to talk with her. After emailing Dance Avenue I did get an apology for whatever that is worth but also was told, other dancers have had “mishaps” on stage and continue on successfully. This was not a “mishap” on stage, this was abuse back stage! Everyone back stage all said my daughter was not misbehaving, not being loud, not being naughty, she was simply excited to go on stage and was jumping up and down in line. The preschool dancers (3-4 year olds) were one of the last in a line up of 40 dance numbers meaning they are backstage in costume, dress and hair for 3 hours before they even get on stage. The recital was very unprofessional, you could hear them talking when the mike shouldn’t not have been on and they were allowing dancers to come back on stage and do full routines over, throwing the rest of the numbers, the sound people, the dancers and audience off, it was as if you were at the rehearsal not a recital. There are other studios that have their recital at the very same auditorium and the tickets are $6. Dance Avenue charges $14 main floor and $10 balcony for the same venue. We have already enrolled for summer dance elsewhere and can’t believe how vibrant & professional & organized this other studio is compared to Dance Avenue. There are many dance studios in the area make sure you do your research, these are the most special moments with your children and you can’t get them back so make sure your child is in good, caring and kind hands. We don’t get to watch our video thru the years and laugh at whatever she did, as tots can be unpredictable & cute whatever they do, instead it will be a very painful memory of how cruel this world can be even in a small environment you felt you could trust.
