Dr. Erfanian was an assistant clinical professor of surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2007 to 2012. There, he was directly involved in the training of medical students and plastic and orthopaedic residents. He received the Outstanding Teaching Award multiple years while at UNC and was also involved in teaching surgical anatomy to medical students and residents. Primary Care
Primary care sports medicine physicians are experts in the field of sports medicine. They are involved in research and education and also have a tremendous amount of hands-on experience. Either through advanced fellowship training or through years of clinical experience, primary care sports medicine physicians have learned the skills to take care of athletes of all ages, sports and levels of competition. Some of them serve as team physicians to professional sports teams or are personal physicians to elite level athletes. However, they all have experience in taking care of the collegiate or high school athlete and have a broad knowledge of most sports from team sports to extreme sports. Many sports medicine physicians also are or were athletes themselves and therefore have firsthand experience in how injuries and illnesses specifically affect athletes.

Dr. Michael Bahk graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor's degree in English studies. Within his English studies, he was selected to participate in a select writing major and was ultimately awarded the Edwin L. Shuman Essay Award and graduated summa cum laude. He was also a part of the Honors Program in Medical Education (HPME) and attended medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated as one of the top in his class with Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) distinctions. He was also awarded the American Academy of Neurology Award for Excellence in Neurological Science upon graduation.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Dr. Auerbach has been involved in both basic science and clinical research, giving presentations at national and international meetings on hand and upper extremity anatomy, surgical reconstruction and skin grafting. Dr. Auerbach is a consultant for a number of orthopedic technology companies and is an inventor of surgical instruments with several United States Patents. He has authored textbook chapters and technique guides on the fixation of hand fractures and endoscopic carpal tunnel release, as well as wrist, elbow and shoulder arthroscopy.

As a fellowship-trained physician, Dr. Gazmarian enjoys the challenges of treating multiple nonsurgical orthopedic conditions. His goal in patient treatment is to maximize daily function and activity and to provide his patients with excellent service and compassionate care so optimal musculoskeletal health may be restored. “Dr. Ramin was very thorough in his examination. He showed concern for my well-being and took the time to explain treatment. He explained my test results and offered treatment options to help me heal. I have a shoulder injury that, initially, Dr. Ramin thought might be a rotator cuff tear. X-rays were taken in the office on my initial visit. Dr. Ramin did various tests to check my mobility. I was sent for an MRI, and once the results showed no tear, I had a cortisone shot and started PT. Dr. Ramin even said to call if I needed a follow-up. You don't hear that from doctors. I really appreciate the time he took with me. His staff is also very friendly. My requests for appointments and prescriptions were attended to quickly. He then earned his medical degree at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Gazmarian completed his formal medical training with a general surgery internship at UCLA-Harbor General Hospital. His interest in musculoskeletal disorders led him back to UC-Irvine, where he completed his residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He is Board Certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Gazmarian has an interest conservative spinal care and rehabilitation, for the more difficult conditions he performs spinal injections (epidurals/facet blocks) under fluoroscopy for sciatica and spine arthritis. The field of medicine is vast and constantly changing. As new science and technology evolves, so too does the practice of medicine and the advancement of its subspecialties. One such advancement is the development of the field of sports medicine. Traditionally sports medicine has dealt with musculoskeletal injuries sustained by the athlete and thus has classically been a responsibility assumed by the orthopedic surgeon. However, as the influence of sports and athletics rapidly expanded within our culture it became clear that medical care for the athlete meant more than just orthopedic care for the professional or elite athlete. It also meant care for people who participated in recreational athletics or simply used exercise to stay healthy and active.
