The State of New Jersey Department of Public Safety works to protect human lives and property through the enforcement of state laws and works under the office of attorney general. It operates a division of consumer affairs that protects citizens from fraud and offers consumer education. The department s bureau of prevention and community relations is responsible for outreach initiatives, press and community relations, publications and training. The State of New Jersey Department of Public Safety also maintains a commission that emphasizes accountability and offers programs that provide opportunities to individuals to become independent, productive and law abiding citizens. It has a division of civil rights that focuses on employment, discrimination, and housing and public accommodation, as well as enforces the New Jersey Family Leave Act. The department additionally operates law, state police, elections and criminal justice divisions. It is headquartered in Trenton, N.J.
