Morton's neroma issues!

I have been a patient now for over 6 mos. recently had surgery on left foot for morton's neroma and a stump neroma from previous surgery with another Dr. I am into a month now recovery and I am not having the shooting pain, stinging etc. Dr Jenson is a very respectful and compassionate Dr. He had 3 surgeries to perform before his vacation and I had to change my date before he left because I was sick, so he worked me in on that date after he seen how anxious I was to be out of pain. I don't know many doctors that would do that. Also his office staff and assistants are very nice and accommodating. I have to have the same surgery on my right foot eventually but I know I will be returning to him.

Plantar Fasciitis
If you have heel pain, you may have come across the medical term plantar fascia. This is a strong, fairly inflexible connective tissue on the bottom of the foot that connects the heel bone with the toes. When this tissue becomes damaged or torn, it is known as plantar fasciitis, a painful inflammation of the plantar fascia. There is a good chance that your heel pain may be caused by plantar fasciitis, as this is the most common form of heel pain. What caused your plantar fasciitis? Perhaps you run or walk quite a bit or have the type of job that requires you to stand for all or most of the day. Maybe you regularly wear flip-flops, high heels or other footwear that does not offer adequate support or cushioning. Arthritis can contribute to the development of plantar fasciitis, as well as tight calf muscles, high arches, flat feet, or other conditions you may have that cause an imbalance in the biomechanics of your feet. You may even be pregnant or carrying some extra weight, which can stress the plantar fascia. Whatever the reason is for your heel pain, you should know that help is available. You don’t need to learn to live with heel pain, especially if it is caused by plantar fasciitis. If you have cold feet on a regular basis, there may be a variety of causes. Sometimes, your feet are cold simply because of the temperature. Cold weather makes the blood vessels in the extremities constrict to help keep your vital organs warm. The same effect can be caused by high anxiety or stress. By far the most common cause of chronic cold feet is poor circulation. Lifestyle choices, such as being sedentary, sitting at a desk all day, or smoking often inhibit blood flow to your feet. Additional factors, such as high cholesterol, which works to restrict the arterial flow of blood, can result in poor circulation. Other causes include diabetes, anemia, nerve disorders and hypothyroidism. Anyone who experiences cold feet regularly would be wise to visit with a podiatrist who can diagnose their condition and prescribe proper treatment options. In the meantime, you can put on warm socks and slippers, take foot baths regularly, and take short walks to help get the blood flowing.

Those suffering from discomfort in their arches may have flat feet or plantar fasciitis. Common issues that affect the toes include gout, bunions, blisters, corns and calluses, as well as hammertoe and ingrown toenail. An ankle sprains is also a common ailment that can lead to foot pain.

Physical Therapy
A heel spur is a pointy accumulation of calcium deposits that build up over time on the heel bone. They are the body’s response to repetitive strain or localized inflammation where soft tissues meet the bone. Heel spurs can develop at various locations on the heel bone. When the Achilles tendon becomes inflamed, a heel spur can sometimes develop at the back of the heel (where the tendon attaches to the bone). When the long tissue that connects the toes with the heel (plantar fascia) becomes damaged and inflamed, heel spurs can sometimes form on the heel under the arch. Obesity, gait abnormalities, flat feet or high arches, age, improperly fitted shoes, and other factors that stress the feet can also contribute to the formation of a heel spur. Some heel spurs can cause pain and tenderness, while others are asymptomatic, and only become discovered on an X-ray taken to diagnose another condition. A podiatrist can treat a heel spur through a variety of conservative treatments including icing and resting, physical therapy, stretching, oral or injectable anti-inflammatory medications, and custom orthotic devices.

Achilles Tendonitis
There are many different causes of heel pain, including strains or sprains, tarsal tunnel syndrome, stress fractures, Achilles tendonitis, and heel bursitis. One of the most common causes of heel pain for children and teenagers specifically is Sever’s disease. Sever’s disease can develop due to overuse or repetitive microtrauma of the heel bone's growth plates. This condition is often seen among those who are active in sporting activities.
Ankle Instability
Sports in which ankle sprains commonly occur include soccer, tennis, and cheerleading. Ankle sprains are caused by a tear in the ligament of the ankle, which typically occurs when the foot is rolled in an awkward manner. Ankle sprains are usually accompanied with bruising, swelling, and pain. Those who have sprained an ankle in the past may run the risk of developing chronic ankle instability. Those with this condition will generally feel a persistent pain, swelling, and tenderness in the ankle, and may experience the sensation of the ankle giving way when performing everyday activities.

There are many things that you can do to help prevent foot and ankle injuries. Stretching and strengthening the lower limbs is suggested, as strong, flexible feet and ankles are less likely to be injured. Wearing the right shoes, both for your feet and for your sport, will protect and cushion your feet. Allowing yourself adequate time to rest following a workout, and increasing the intensity and duration of your workouts slowly over time can also help you avoid injury. A bunion is a bone deformity usually occurring at the base of the big toe. This is a progressive condition that is made worse by inward pressure from tight shoes. Bunions can be very painful, and in some instances surgery may be necessary to remove them.

Fungal infections occur due to fungus getting through the cracks of the toes or cuts in your skin. Common signs that you may have a fungal infection include thicker than normal toenails, oddly shaped toenails, discoloration, a yellowish hue to the nail, and separation of the nail and nail bed. Fungal infections can affect anyone but are most common among men, those with diabetes or athlete’s foot, and smokers. The risk of having toenail fungus also increases as you age, if another family member has it, and if you have a weaker immune system.

Hammertoe is a characterized by one or more of the toes having a bend in the middle joint. This occurs because of weakening of the muscle due to poorly fitted shoes or a genetically inherited trait.

Ingrown Toenails
Treatment for an ingrown toenail will vary on a case by case basis. One form of treatment requires lifting the ingrown nail and placing a splint or piece of cotton underneath. Another method for a more severe case would involve partially removing the nail. For cases that need extreme care, the nail itself and tissue would have to be removed.
