Laser Eye Surgery
PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) uses the same excimer laser as the LASIK procedure to reshape the outer layer of the cornea. PRK is an alternative for patients whose corneas are too thin for the more common LASIK procedure.
Cataracts
In a normal eye, light passes through a clear tissue known as the lens and becomes focused for clear vision. A cataract is the clouding/opacification of the normally-transparent lens within your eye. If a cataract is blocking the passage of light through the lens, the result is blurry vision, increased glare, and washed-out colors. These visual distortions may not always be corrected with glasses or contacts, especially if the cataract is mature and large.
Cataract Surgery
During a typical cataract surgery, the surgeon removes the cataract and replaces it with an artificial lens, similar to a contact lens. That artificial lens, known as an intraocular lens (IOL), has a focusing power that is uniquely designed for you. Once that lens is inserted, vision is generally improved, but there may be a residual prescription.
Eye Exam
Our doctors recommend that you have an optomap retinal image taken at each yearly eye exam. This special camera was designed by a father after his 5-year-old son went blind, to aid in earlier detection of ocular problems.

This will include a visual field test, glaucoma screening, cataract detection, and dilated retinal examination to examine you for ocular disease and general health issues (such as hypertension and diabetes) that can affect the eyes. Should we detect any problems, our doctors are all therapeutically licensed optometrists who are trained to diagnose, manage, and treat many ocular diseases including glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts.

Lesions
This specialty test is important for monitoring chronic conditions that may change over time. The photograph documents the size, shape, coloring, and pattern of problems such as hemorrhages, pigmented lesions, vascular lesions, elevation, fluid leakage, and growths. Sequential photographs taken over a span of time, along with careful monitoring at office visits, will help identify subtle amounts of change which may require further medical intervention.
