Glaucoma
It is estimated that there are at least 3 million people in the US with established vision loss from glaucoma, but only 2 million have been diagnosed and are receiving treatment. Most cases of glaucoma could be discovered and treated if those at risk could be examined annually.
Ophthalmology
Dr. Graichen obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1979 and his Doctorate of Medicine from Tufts University in 1983. From 1987 to 1990 Dr. Graichen was an Ophthalmology Resident at the USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. In 1991, he completed a fellowship in Ophthalmic Pathology at Baylor College in Houston, Texas.
Macular Degeneration
Dr. Graichen was the first physician in York County to offer Macugen®, a breakthrough therapy for cases of macular degeneration that were previously untreatable with laser therapy. In 1994, Dr. Graichen joined Associated Eyecare and has brought state of the art treatments for macular degeneration and other retinal disorders to southern Maine and New Hampshire.
Laser Eye Surgery
Ophthalmologists attend medical school and complete internships and residencies before they begin to treat patients in private practice. These professionals are trained to complete eye surgery, including cataract surgery, and can offer ongoing treatment of complex diseases like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and more.
