This complete renovation of the previous Salida Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center will now serve the City of Salida and Chaffee County Government. The remodel work consists of the removal of walls and replacement of ceilings and flooring, making this project challenging yet satisfying from a construction standpoint. A total renovation of more than 45,000 square feet of office space to include structural, mechanical and electrical upgrades along with a total interior demolition with asbestos abatement.

High Country Bank’s second branch in Buena Vista was designed to make a statement. This facility incorporates arched timber trusses, stone fireplaces, granite and hardwood trim and high-tech banking equipment. DSI has built a very strong relationship with High Country Bank and their principals – this project is an excellent example of a strong owner, architect and general contractor team.

Kyle Walter graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering. His experience includes 2 years of residential construction varying from production track to high end on projects valued from $5M to $44M and 3 years working for a large commercial general contractor. His collaboration early-on with the client and designers prepares the project for success. Kyle believes in facing challenges head on and will work to find the most direct solution.
Demolition
This centerpiece for Colorado Mountain College’s Leadville Campus began with the solicitation of proposals for design-build teams. DSI along with Ron Mazzeo were awarded the contract by implementing our core values of quality, schedule and value thus providing a high quality building while completing the project during Leadville’s short building season and all within the college’s budget. Phase One consisted of a 10,792 sq ft design-build campus library, replacing the existing library. Phase Two involved demolition of the 20,000 sq ft Storm King Building to expand the central campus parking lot. Phase Three consisted of a 14,900 sq ft design-build campus Leadership Center with a new gymnasium, community meeting rooms and additional classrooms. Phase Four is a 1,100 sq ft wood and metal shop classroom to consolidate two existing programs into one central location.

This 22,000 square foot retail store combines the strength of exposed steel beams and metal siding with the warmth of wood, stucco, and stone. Special features include second floor office space, automated entrance doors and skylights throughout the store.

This project was Salida’s first LEED certified project. The unique design utilizes south facing windows for optimal daylight collection and passive solar heat. Other “Green” amenities include extra insulation and environmentally friendly building products. The project was funded by various grants and fundraising events. The Salida School District is ecstatic with the functional efficiency and low operating cost of this building.
Masonry
This fast-tracked quick lube and car wash facility includes a three bay mechanical area as well as hydraulic lifts and a large storage area for parts and tools. This building is accented with beautiful masonry and stucco exterior as well as exposed wooden beams and large storefront windows. Highlights include a beautiful retail and waiting area with a full-service coffee bar.
