Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a condition that is commonly caused by a higher than normal pressure inside the eye. This can potentially affect the optic nerve, located in the back of the eye, and can lead to vision loss if left untreated. It usually occurs when fluid builds up in the front part of your eye. The extra fluid increases the pressure in your eye, damaging the optic nerve.

Macular Degeneration
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) occurs when a part of the retina called the macula is damaged. With AMD, you lose your central vision and may not be able to see fine details, whether you are looking at something close or far. However, peripheral (side) vision will still be normal.

Cataracts
Cataracts form on the eye's natural lens. When the lens is removed, it is replaced with an artificial, acrylic lens implant, which is a very thin disk measuring approximately 1/4 inch in diameter. Without a lens implant, extremely thick eyeglasses would be required to see clearly. The lens is meant to last a lifetime. You will not feel the lens implant in your eye.
Cataract Surgery
Dr. Sepsakos is a skilled corneal and cataract surgeon. She performs both traditional and laser-assisted cataract surgery and offers advanced intraocular lenses to achieve the best vision after surgery. As a cornea specialist, she treats a wide spectrum of complex diseases including keratoconus, Fuchs’ dystrophy, limbal stem cell deficiency, herpetic eye disease, conjunctival tumors, dry eye disease and pterygia. She also performs corneal transplants such as DSAEK (Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty) and DMEK (Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty).
Eye Exam
A refraction is not covered by Medicare or most medical insurance plans. You will be responsible for paying the refraction fee at the time of service in addition to any copayment, coinsurance, or deductible your insurance plan may require for a medical eye exam.
