Just recently (May of 2013) I was helping out with a funeral luncheon at their location in River Falls. Not only were they understaffed and directing those who (were there as volunteers with the family to help with a post-service luncheon) to do things such as check toilet paper in the bathrooms, but the kitchen area that they provide for such events was beyond disgusting. Mold was found along the seal of the refrigerator, parts of the laminate countertop were coming undone and when I went to open a window to let air in the extremely cramped, stuffy, and dated basement, I was told by one of the funeral directors that the "windows don't open". I'm here to tell you that they did in fact open but were stuck... Upon opening them, dust and dead bugs came flying in immediately. If the owners of the building "didn't know" that the windows opened, when were they last cleaned? And if they aren't even cleaning their windows, what else aren't they cleaning...?



Also, it's clear to ANYONE who walks in there that it hasn't been remodeled since the late 80's... Original everything (including the hand soap in the downstairs kitchen area). I know and understand that it's a business and that you need to cut costs where you can, but it was more than apparent by the state of the building and by the comments of owner Brian Young that they were all about "cutting costs", even to the extent of hovering and shutting lights off as people left the bathroom... You have a grieving family here, aren't there more important things to worry about?



BOTTOM LINE: I cannot and will not recommend Bakken-Young to anyone... The biggest impression that they left on me was that their bottom line is more important than the comfort and the quality of services offered to the families who seek their services.
