Westport Rehabilitation

I will never forgive myself for placing my father at Westport, where he died. This is not a place for patients with serious medical conditions, such as recovering from a stroke who are non-ambulatory. The facility is decades old and the staff is not prepared to deal with complex medical issues. Ours was a nightmare experience.

The physical rehab department is wonderful. They are patient and kind but at the same time encourage my mother to work as hard as she can to recover from her recent joint replacement. The nursing staff, on the other hand, are generally inattentive to my mother's needs. The CNAs seem to want to run the place and nurses don't have the desire or ability to provide adequate direction. There are a few nurses and CNAs who are proactive but their efforts are mostly in vain because the next ones drop the ball. My family and I find it necessary to keep a tight vigil on my mother's basic safety when she is not in rehab. Basic cleanliness, regular toileting and adequate hydration are often overlooked. If this is the best Richmond has to offer, I feel sorry for all of the others!
