My mother met with the owner of the business, Matt, to discuss a job for my grandmother and to purchase a gift certificate for her for the work. Matt informed her he was familiar with her landscaping needs based upon previous work and guided her on the amount for the gift. When my grandmother redeemed the certificate some months later, his workers came over to do the work, but she mentioned to me that she didn’t think they had finished the job in the backyard. She also mentioned that what was done, was done well. She called the owner the following day, and Matt stopped by to see the work and discuss the additional work needed/wanted. My grandmother mentioned that she would also want 2 dead bushes replaced. Matt seemed accommodating, promising to finish the work, replace the bushes, never mentioned additional monies owed and promised to send someone over soon. Unfortunately, nobody called or came back. After 3-4 messages with no response, my mother called to see what the details were and if there was a misunderstanding since she purchased the gift certificate in the first place. Her intention was simply to clear the situation up, which seemed pretty simple.



The call started cordial, until he realized she was the daughter calling about the uncompleted services. He immediately became defensive and irate and demanded (without her suggesting otherwise) that he completed the work that was fair for the amount paid. He then further stated that my grandmother was “so annoying” and “has been bugging him to replace 2 bushes.” My mother began to explain that she took a look at the yard and noticed that the weeding in the backyard was not completed and that she was upset and taken aback about his comments regarding my grandmother. He responded by getting louder, stating that my grandmother was a “royal pain in his a**” and that he refused to do any work for her in the future. He followed this comment by hanging up on my mom.



At first we thought the connection had been broken between the cell phones as she had not been argumentative with him and barely even got in a word edgewise, so we couldn’t imagine why the call would end in this manner. After trying to reach him a few more times, we realized he was picking up and hanging up. After speaking with other neighbors/friends who have used him, we found 3 more households complaining of incomplete work (prepaid, of course) and an unprofessional, aggressive attitude. To date, this hasn’t been resolved and Matt will not take/return any phone calls.
