Rama Hair Braiding

I must have had the same stylist as another poster. The stylist was very rude! She blow dried my hair which I didn’t mind as much but then she was so rough on my hair and she just brushed my roots, like sir don’t you know how to comb hair. You started at the ends. And then she decided to tell me, I told you to comb your hair but you didn’t. Sir I did comb my hair but now your drying it out with the blow dryer so of course it’s going to be a lot harder to comb because you didn’t put anything on it before you blow dried it. And then she just walked away and started talking to someone who came in to the shop trying to sell stuff. No ma’am you’re not about to get this $180.00 and be that rude to me. So I kindly got up and put my scarf on my head and walked out. See what you not about to do is mistreat me and think I don’t have any recourse. Women please know that you don’t have to accept this poor behavior from anyone especially when you’re paying them.

1. The stylist blow dryed my DRY hair which I did not like.
2. The stylist was coughing, sneezing and sniffing on the back of my neck
3. All of the stylists talk very loudly in their dialect the whole time, it gave me a headache.
4. My stylist roughly brushed my hair to the point where I was crying.
5. My stylist must have stopped 10 times during the 5 hour period it took her to do my hair. When normally it takes only 2-3 hours. ( I was getting thick poetic justice box braids)
6. My hair turned out great, but my overall experience was terrible and I don't think I'll EVER be back there again.

I had a fairly good experience at Rama I have been going to this salon for years; however there are a few things that I will never become accustomed to. 1 being I was quoted a price in person one day, and then when I returned to actually have services done another price was quoted. Secondly, the stylists are not customers service oriented (my braided was very kind) but the rest of the women speak in their dialect which can be somewhat offensive towards those who are not natives. The women also stare as someone mentioned previously luckily I'm not easily offended. In all I had a good experience at Rama and my braids were very neat and tight.

I went to Rama's today. They did an okay job on my Senegalese twist. The lady was a good braider, but she didn't do what I asked. It's not the size I wanted. I told them I didn't want big braids in the middle. Guess what, I have big braids in the middle. Some of the braids in the back are short and it looks like they will come loose soon. Overall, this place is okay. I would say don't try your luck here. I feel like I overpaid because of the big braids in the middle and short braids in the back. They do braid tight and I had to keep letting them know that I wanted all my hair in the braid. In the back half of my hair is out the braid. I noticed in the back she got a little careless. I'm not from Philly, but I've been to most of the African Braiding shops on N 5th Street, and I half were not good. I'll try South Philly next time. I won't go here again!

The stylists at Rama Braiding did an excellent job on my hair,my braids are very tight and neat. However, this is the only positive thing I can say about my experience. My stylist was not friendly and I was not greeted when I walked in the door, they all stared at me like I was an alien from another planet. One of the stylist tried to blow dry my hair (which was not even wet) without a heat protectant and they wanted my payment up front so they could get the kind of hair I wanted. (shouldnt they have had it in the salon already since I called 2 days ahead of time to let them know what kind of hair i wanted and style). Not to mention my stylist did not say one word to me or even attempt to make conversation until she realized I had an iphone and asked to use my charger, smh. Once she was done my hair she did not say "thank you, OR have a nice day". Rama is well worth it if you are willing to get your hair done somewhere where they know how to braid and want great quality,skill. However, if you are looking for friendly respectable customer service take your money elsewhere.
