Arthroscopy is a technique Dr. Burke uses for reconstructive trauma in his patients. This outpatient procedure improves surgery performance since a small camera looks inside any of the joints and assists during the arthroscopy. A small incision allows for the arthroscope to enter the joint. Dr. Burke and his surgery assistants can see the inside of the joint on a monitor with full 3D details of the orthopedic injury or disease. Arthroscopy
Patients will need to schedule weekly physical therapy appointments with Dr. Burke. Arthroscopy will leave patients with temporary numbness around the ankle, elbow, knee or shoulder, but this sensation will fade during the short recovery.

OrthAlign® provides visual navigation of a joint procedure, assisting the surgeon with live information in the palm of their hand to accurately perform specific joint replacement operations. This reconstructive surgery comes in two forms: total replacement and partial replacement. Both forms of arthroplasty have a single goal, which is to enhance the patient’s range-of-motion without painful symptoms. Dr. Burke may recommend total joint replacement when the specific joint is beyond the point of repair, but when the joint has some functionality, may suggest partial joint replacement as a better option.

Dr. Robert Burke specializes in Sports Medicine, focusing his care on athletic injury treatments that utilize the latest medical research and technology. His goal is to allow patients to recover from an injury more rapidly, allowing them to quickly return to their sport and everyday activities. Physical Therapy
The MACI® Procedure (autologous cultured chondrocytes on porcine collagen membrane) is a specialized procedure for the treatment of the knees. It is a surgical option indicated for cartilage defects in the knee. When more conservative interventions such as physical therapy or steroid injections have failed to relieve pain, the procedure allows the surgeon to implant the patient’s own normal articular cartilage. It is completed by harvesting a collection of the patient’s own (autologous) healthy cartilage taken from a non-weight bearing position. This autologous cartilage contains chondrocyte cells which are considered to be the building blocks of cartilage. These cells are then placed onto a membrane of collagen which encourages expansion of these cells, and in turn, new healthy cartilage. Your surgeon will most likely remove the area of damaged tissue on the affected knee. Next, the MACI® implant will be surgically placed at the location of cartilage damage and absorbed back into your own tissue. Multiple MACI® implants may be used at one time.
