I had a really positive experience with Discount Maintenance Marine. Mike went above and beyond to get my boat in solid running order. He was professional, extremely knowledgable, and accomplished what another nearby service center said was not possible without dropping substantial cash. Having the customer come along for a lake test was brilliant, and gave me both peace of mind and confidence that the job was done right. It's great to see a business stand beside its work. I highly recommend this place.

Great job

1st time to deal with mike and very impressed. Lot of knowledge about boats and did a great job on mine. Recommended my friends to him and will definitely come back (hopefully a year or so before I tear something else up though)

I have delt with Mike and his crew at discount maintenance marine several times. All experiences were excellent and top notch work was done. I referred several people to Mike as well. All of them have been extremely happy with the service and experience they received. I will always go to Mike for any of my marine repair needs!

Thanks Mike!

Mike is the real deal. I’ve had my boat for a couple of years, and as with any industry it’s hard to find someone that really knows their trade, and even harder to find someone as such that also cares as much about you as they do their business.

A few weeks ago, some really nasty storms swept through the metroplex and laid a beating down on my pontoon boat, which I kept in a wet slip at Joe Pool Marina. I found Discount Maintenance Marine online and decided to give them a try. My boat was a little older, and fully insured – but with a caveat. Essentially, my pontoons were beat beyond the point of repair from the insurance co’s perspective, along with other damage, so they decided to total out my boat. I had it fully insured for what I paid for it which was $11,000 + $1,100 for the trailer. But where the insurance company really stuck it to me was when they told me that they had broken my boat’s value down into 2 categories, boat and motor (since it was outboard), and insured them separately for $7,000 + $4,000, respectively, to make the $11,000 total. Nowhere in my policy documents was this explained. Only the trailer was broken out. So insurance basically told me that they were going to pay me $7,000 for the totaled boat, but leave me with an “undamaged” motor and trailer! Well, Mike went to bat for me and essentially said that he would charge more just to take my boat off of my trailer and put it on theirs, not to mention his fees for moving the motor from the totaled boat to a new one. In the end, thanks to Mike’s help, the just decided to pay me the $7,000 for my boat PLUS just let me keep the salvage. This left me enough to at least get the boat repaired into floating condition, and lower my initial cost basis while still keeping a functional boat.

I also decided to make some updates (new stereo system, new batteries, aesthetic repairs, etc.), and asked Mike to take care of them. Let me emphasize – this guy can do anything, and you can tell he’s qualified just by the way he explains it. As far as the stereo upgrades go, he is as qualified as any custom marine/auto audio specialist would be.

I will continue to use Mike for all marine needs in the future. He is honest, hardworking, and good at what he does, and I’m fortunate to have found someone of his caliber in an otherwise cutthroat industry toward those as inexperienced as myself when it comes to boat maintenance. As a last example, I also asked Mike to perform a “tune up” as so many other shops offer, and his response was basically that anyone that sells tune ups is kind of a scam toward those that don’t know any better (like myself). He looked at what needed to be done and only recommended those actions. He didn’t try to sneak in anything unreasonable. I also ask a LOT of questions, and he was very patient with me as well!

Well done, Mike, and thanks for taking such good care of your customers.

This is an incredible place. Mike has more knowledge about boats and because of that saved me from purchasing a new motor for my boat. He fixed it and it runs great!

He is now the only person I let work on my boat as well as my friends who have boats. He is honest and does a great job.

I have never had a problem with his company.

These people are the most honest folks in this industry. They work hard to keep their customers happy and who ever wrote that comment about them being crooks should have their head checked. I've heard nothing but good things about Mike. He's honest and polite. I hope that they stay in business for as long as possible. Thanks for fixing my boat at a cheaper price than what I was quoted from a few other boat shops. And thanks for keeping it locked up inside and not in a yard. If anyone was to ask me where to get their service done I'm going tell them about these people!!

Great customer service. After...

Great customer service. After taking my boat to ANOTHER dealer to have my five year maintenance done my boat developed a leak. After taking the boat back two more times and being told it was fixed and then being told it needed another 1,000 -4,000 worth of repairs I decided to get another opinion. I dropped my boat of at Discount Maintenance Marine early in the morning and told the one of the associates my problem and ask if they could check it out. Even though they were very limited on space they took my boat and said they would check it out. I received a call from Mike the next day and he said they had checked the boat and found the cause of the leak. The leak was caused by an improperly installed bellow from the OTHER dealership. Mike not only took time to explain what was wrong with the boat he also showed me what it should look like on a boat they had just changed the bellows on. Mike then went a step further and called the other dealership on my behalf to explain the problem so they would be able to properly fix it. Mike was professional, helpful and demonstrated his passion and knowledge for boats. I extremely happy I took my boat to him for a second opinion and can say that I have found my new boat mechanic.

Awesome service!!

I took my Seadoos to this shop and had them check out the running problems on one of my skis and for maintenance on the other and they saved me a lot of money. I called around and got a few quotes on the repairs and they had the best deal in town. The tech was fast and when I got them back they ran better than ever! I will be a life long customer!

Overall
Not professionals

I tookI took my boat with an outboard motor to them for a problem I had with it. I got a phone call a few days later with an estimate for the problem, a couple days later another phone call with a significantly higher estimate to fix an undiagnosed problem. (More than 10 times the amount of the original problem.) I agreed to the fix and hoped I wasn't getting ripped off. A couple days later I got a phone call stating they could not repair it. When I picked up the boat I received a disassembled outboard strung throughout the boat. I was charged for a good part of the repair. During most of my conversations with them they criticized my choice of boats and made fun of all of the equipment I had on the boat.

They whined and complained about the age of my boat and that it did not have a windshield. If they didn't want to work on the outboard they should have declined to provide me with an estimate or, work on it in the first place. I approved all of the REPAIR quote(s). I brought them the motor whole (needing repair but whole) and received it in 23 pieces after approving all of the repair estimates. Regardless of their ability to figure out which customer it was that gave them a bad review it does not deter from the lack of professionalism displayed to me. I was trying to buy a service from them. I did not deserve criticism for my choice of boats or the equipment it had or, for the motor to be returned in pieces. A customer that approved and was willing to pay for the repair should not be returned a product in worse condition and be told to part it out to recoup the charges they imposed for work they quoted that seemed to be beyond their skill set.

Discount Maintenance Marine has reviewed this statement and also determined who this customer is and we feel that all the details he was so afraid to include should be reviewed before determining who the Amateur in this case really was. This gentlemen brought us a used boat and 55hp (1976 model outboard) which would not turn over fast enough to find out why it wouldn’t start, we called him to advise his starter need to be replaced to continue and we would not charge a labor amount above the $85.00 check out fee and his starter would be $120.00 in parts, he agreed. Once installed and the motor spinning fast enough to run compression we found low compression, we bypassed the boat harness and fuel tank and used our shop supplies and equipment to attempt to run the motor. The motor ran for 25 seconds or so before we turned it off due to a very loud engine knock. We then called the customer with a rebuild est. since our venders showed no available blocks for this year model. We spend the next 12 hours (off and on) slowly heating and soaking the 34 year old motor package to get it to come off its mid section. After it was finally on the bench and undressed the head plate bolts (which had been soaking for a day and a half now) were just spinning heads off due to them being corroded into the block, we then stopped and split the case to find the piston connecting arm had been hitting the reed valve plates during operation and damaged them. We still had a lot of bolts that were visibly not coming out from years of water corrosion we then decided the rebuild was not going to be possible without major machine shop work to the block and addition parts that were not visible during the check out, so we decided that due to the overall condition of the boat and motor, repairing it was going to be much higher than the value of total vessel's worth so we decided to not charge a tear down or anything above the $85.00 plus tax check out fee and his $120.00 on the starter and we wiped the almost 14 labor hours off the work order and boxed it up for him. We showed him how he could (if he wanted) recouped some money by parting it out and we ensured that all his parts were in boxes for easy movement and then we advised him to get another motor that could be mounted on the boat or just find another used boat but let us do a pre purchase inspection this time. We were honest with him about his choice of the boat when he asked what we thought about it. He did what many do every year and got himself a bad deal on a lemon boat. We felt we did him great justice by not wasting his money and wiping all our hard earned labor off the bill at our expense! Note, that his tech was fully certified and we built 14 motors last year alone here from 25hps to 250hps saving customers on replacement costs with our knowledge. We have over 10 years of boat repair right here in the metroplex and even offered free pre purchase inspections as a promo when this facility first opened so to help STOP people from being burned on these kinds of situations. Still we would like to personally apologize for any emotional distress this customer may feel we caused him, clearly he did not express how he felt when he picked up the boat, if he had I'm sure we could have worked out something to deter his decision to smear the name of a shop he knew nothing about on the internet. Thanks to all that read this and PLEASE Boat safely!
